Our Verdict

Considering this bonus doesn’t have any requires and it’s fee free and you can fund up to $1,000 with a credit card, this is a very good offer. Especially if you don’t particular like the hassles of bank bonuses. I just wish it was open to more states, I’ve added it to our best bank bonus page.

  1. Kevin says:

I attempted to open an account with Pinnacle Bank as a resident of Missouri I had problems with questions that wanted me to think back 20 to 30 years. Called customer service and told to go a branch, which is about 300 miles each way. I did make a call to HQ and got hold of someone in Human Resources. My last act was to file a complaint with MO Division of Finance and have not received any help so far.

  2. Stephen says:

Just put in this app (pending approval) but they did accept credit card as a funding method. Hasn’t posted yet, so no data on whether it codes as a purchase or advance, but I’ll try to remember to come back later with that.

  3. Joseph says:

I received a response from Pinnacle Bank today. See below –

    Hi Customer Service,
Will opening a checking account result in a soft or hard credit pull?

    Pinnacle Bank’s reply:
“Information is pulled from public records, so neither a hard or soft pull is done.”

  4. David says:

I was also informed that they just pull info from public records – no credit pulls.

You can fund with a credit card. It came up as an option when I opened it to fund with “credit/debit”. For sure Visa & Mastercard were available but I don’t remember if Amex was or not. Regardless, I put in a Chase Visa for $2k. My account was approved a day and a half later (yesterday), and my $2k purchase from “Pinnacle Bank” is now pending on my Chase card. But none of my cash advance limit has gone away so I’m thinking it’s a purchase as are must Chase cards for funding accounts.

There was no funding limit stated on the account opening information…. I only had $3k available credit on the card though or I might’ve tried pushing more. Curious to see how much other people put through!

  5. J T says:

Max cc funding is $5k. Applied 1/4/15 and tried to fund with a higher amount, but the form errored out with a message that the “initial deposit must be less than or equal to $5000”.

Chase Ink visa (no immediate charge), application pending review.

  6. JGM says:

The main bank bonus page has this bank listed as a state-specific bank offer for WAshington state. WA state residents aren’t eligible though. Just an FYI, so you can fix the wording on the main page.

  7. J T says:

Following up on my experience: funded with Ch@se !nk for $5k, max allowed (see my previous post), transaction posted as sale with UR credited. No noticeable hold placed on the deposit, in and out in less than a week. Waiting for 90 day mark for bonus to post.

You have it noted in the eligibility details, but it bears repeating that a checking acct bonus for Pinnacle is only ‘churnable’ every 4 years (should any bonus be offered after this one expires). That being said, I like the web interface and communication so far. With truly no fee/no effort checking being somewhat rare, I may keep and actually use this account.

  8. Austin says:

Funded 4990 with Chase card. Posted as purchase. Thank prior data points!

  9. Elena G says:

Posted as a purchase for my Capital One Spark Card! Anyone have any success with Barclays?

  10. tgienger59 says:

    Data point.

Opened account: 2/20. Funded with $5000 from INK card.

    $100 bonus posted: 5/29.

    Couldn’t be easier.

  11. Ryan says:

I did this about 3 months ago $5k funding with BoA travel rewards. No cash advance and points posted. Still have not received the bonus from the bank yet.

    • J T says:

It’s a full 3 months + a few days; it will post. If for some reason it doesn’t in a couple more weeks, just call them. Pinnacle is a small outfit, but they have been very helpful and professional over the phone.

  12. DOC says:

Funded with Barclay choice plus card – 5k, posted as purchase and shows points earned.

  13. Joe says:

Data Point: Opened account and funded $5K with Barclays Arrival +. Posted as a purchase earning points.

  14. Sam says:

Anyone have datapoint on how citi codes funding an account here? I’m aware that citi generally treats these as cash advances but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure with this institution.

  15. chris says:

This offer appears to be extended to September 15th

  16. Evan says:

Funded $4,750 on Chase Sapphire Preferred. Posted as purchase.

  17. Nick says:

Applied and was denied for bogus reason and told that I had to go into branch to open the account. Said that the data they received on me “showed that I had been the victim of fraud.” Total BS. So they made me come in. I went in and opened the account. It was long, and grueling, almost torturous. Took about 1-hour. I funded with my Chase Ink for $500 – which posted as a CASH ADVANCE and I was stuck paying a $25 fee to Chase. Oh well…

One thing I will say is that Pinnacle does seem to have a very good online bill pay.

  18. Josh says:

I funded a Pinnacle account last month for $4,200 with a CSP. All went well and it posted as a purchase. Haven’t received the bonus yet, but not expecting it for 3 months judging by other data points in the comments

  19. Cony says:

Just tried to fund with CSP for $1600, looks like it is pending as a purchase. Will keep you guys posted.
Is there a way to add more from CSP after initial deposit?

  20. John says:

Don’t waste your time if you have credit frozen. Unable to verify so they must pull something from credit in addition to the public stuff. The questions were accurate so they got that part.

  21. Santosh Purohit says:

Paid 5K with Hyatt and Posted as purchase

  22. Bill H says:

Looks like this offer is now extended to Sept. 30.

  23. patternseverywhere says:

Opened 7/14/15. Still no bonus posted as of 10/22/15 (100 days from opening).

    • patternseverywhere says:

Follow up data point. Bonus finally posted on accounts for self and wife on 10/29/15, so precisely 107 days after account opening.

  24. noobaccount says:

The funding amount is now reduced to a max of $1000. Even though it’s visa or MasterCard. Just tried a chase BA card and the 1K charge is pending.

  25. 1,000 confirm says:

confirming that what noobaccount states that is now 1,000 maximum. got this today

  26. noobpinnaccount says:

The $1000 charge got posted to my chase card. And today I was told my online application was cancelled due to some issue. Even though everything verified fine with public records. They asked me to go to a branch.

  27. noobpinnaccount says:

How will they refund my $1000? Is it through check or will they reverse the charge on the credit card since the online application was cancelled?

    Any data points on refunds?

  28. Jes says:

Which credit bureau do they pull?

  29. Ken says:

This is good again and expires Jan 31st. Also, they’ve lowered the max CC fund to $1,00. I just opened this account for my wife.

  30. Matt says:

I funded this account w/ $5K from Ink+ the last time this deal came around (Septemberish 2015). Posted as purchase and received bonus w/o any issue.

  31. Aaron says:

Woot! The offer was extended to March 31st 2016. I opened an account, funded with my Chase United MileagePlus Explorer for $1000. I’ll reply when the transaction finalizes and I can peek if it was coded as a purchase or a cash advance.

  32. Gary says:

I funded with Chase Sapphire Preferred and it went through as a purchase. I tried logging into the account and was unable to do so. Is anybody else having problems?

  33. loretta says:

I’ve been surfing online more than 3 hours these days, yet
I by no means discovered any attention-grabbing
article like yours. It’s pretty price sufficient
for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the internet will probably be much
    more useful than ever before.

  34. Patrick says:

    Funding max is now $1k

  35. JL says:

    Doc –

Serious data point here: You can fund $1,000 to a checking account and another $1,000 to a savings account, BUT you can’t sign up for both accounts at the same time. I signed up for checking first & funded $1K, & then I signed up for savings about a month later & funded another $1K. They automatically combined my checking & savings accounts together with one login.

This is great for anyone trying to hit some credit card spend. I used the Citi Platinum Select Personal Mastercard. Posted as purchase.

I’m going to open another account this week & try to use my United Mileage Plus Explorer Business card next. I’ll let you know how it goes.

    • Kyle says:

I’m curious – did you try the “PINNCHECK MARKET ACCOUNT” as well? That would be three $1K accounts…

      • JL says:

@ Kyle – No! Didn’t know that! I will check that out!!

More Updates – I opened up a Bank of Colorado checking account last month to do another $1K Spend on a new credit card. I used my Citi Premier card and it posted as a purchase. I plan to open a savings account next. Here’s a summary of cards that have been used & posted as purchases:

Pinnacle Checking @ $1K = Citi Platinum Select Personal AAdvantage
Pinnacle Savings @ $1K = United Mileage Plus Explorer Business

Bank of Colorado Checking @ $1K = Citi Premier
Bank of Colorado Savings @ $1K = Planning to use Chase Ink Plus

        • Kyle says:

          Hey JL,
Did you open a Money Market account yet?

When you opened the savings account to do another $1k in CC funding, did you say YES, you’re currently a customer and try to use the same username / password? I would assume so, but want to make sure I can get that additional CC funding in. Thanks!

  36. Ben says:

So my wife applied for this on 12/18, got approved around 12/21, and got her $100 on 3/18. Nothing for me, but I’m not expecting it as it should be one per household.

  37. Greg says:

I signed up and funded 1k with Chase Freedom, no issues there. You have to do First time login with your checking account number and the last 4 of your social security. I was browsing around the site and could not find a way to add a bank to wire the money out of.

  38. JL says:

Note – Both Pinnacle Bank & Bank of Colorado have removed the ability to “add external bank accounts.” I messaged them about it, and they said that there’s no way to add other bank accounts.

This means that the only way to get the money out of the bank is to pay off a credit card, so plan ahead!!!

    • Kyle says:

Yowza! Is it easy to setup a payment to the credit card through their system? If so, I guess it’s not a big deal, but could take awhile to get money out! I plan to use the money in them to pay for my car payment too though. 🙂

On Pinnacle, I assume you can transfer money between savings / checking without issue? Thanks.

      • JL says:

@Kyle – yeah it’s easy to pay off credit cards through their system called “pop money.” Pretty straight forward. It’s also easy to transfer between savings and checking (take less than 24 hours).

    • An ACH pull should also work.

  39. Kyle says:

Anyone have issues getting past the funding page in the application? It just hangs without progressing. I can login to the app again and retry where I left off, but it does the same thing. I click Continue, and the button changes to the animated button and then never progresses. I’m using my Citi AAdvantage Business card and have set cash advance limit to $0. Could that be the issue? That’s it’s trying to do a cash advance (at least initially)? Others here have been using Citi Premier, so I was hoping this would work… Thanks!

    • Maxx says:

I have tried different credit card and had the same issue. I called the bank and they said they are aware of it and working on it. Try back later.

      • Kyle says:

Ah, thanks for sharing. I was assuming it was just because it was trying to do a cash advance and not going through. So they didn’t offer to take your credit card by phone or anything? Update us if you hear anything new or get it to go through! Thanks,

        • Maxx says:

I tried to log in to complete the application tonight. It went through the funding page and completed the application. I funded $1000 with Chase UA with CA set to zero.

          • Kyle says:

Awesome, thanks! I finally got it to go through for me as well – funded $1,000 with Citi AAdvantage Biz card. 🙂

  40. greg says:

90 days and no bonus. I’ll call them today.

  41. CK says:

Anyone knows about maintenance of the account going forward after getting the bonus?
Is canceling /closing the account going to be tricky in the future?

  42. Mr. PTM says:

Funding DP: funded $1k with Fido 2% Visa, posted as purchase. 🙂

  43. Jeff H says:

Deposited MO in B&M location today .. Bank indicated those funds post and available same day. Checked on line. Seems to be correct. Debit card action same day when thru normally.

    • Jeff H says:

Got shut down today. Wal-mart MoneyGram MO apparently was the trigger. 6 x $1000.00 the same day. No previous MS MO problems.

  44. Curmudgeon says:

Tried to open account on 8/25 with $1000 Citi Hilton, was denied due to “inability to verify identity.” Called rep, was advised to reapply. Reapplied today, funded with $400 on Citi Hilton. Approved 2 hours later. Charge shows as pending purchase with Citi. Original $1000 charge still showing as pending with Citi Hilton.

  45. Joe says:

I got my new CSR card today. Called and lowered the CA limit to $100, then did some real grocery shopping, came home and opened the Pinnacle account. I funded it with 1K from the CSR and it’s pending. They said they are reviewing the account. Their questions were kind of funny because they were all about my family and not about me. Anyway, thanks a lot for this. I needed the 1K in spending. Also, I thought it was kind of strange that my CSR card came in the mail already activated.

  47. Jeff H says:

Opened 07/08/2016 $500.00 CC deposit. Used the account very modestly. Bank said they were MO deposit friendly crediting MO deposits same day. That advice has been true for the few times I have made MO deposits including today (10/10/2016).
10/10/2016 Account Opening Bonus $100.00 credited despite it being Columbus Day which is a bank holiday for much of the USA.

  48. Curmudgeon says:

8/29: Opened account, funded with Citi Hilton (billed as purchase)
12/01: “Account opening bonus” $100 posted

Side note: I needed to finish off the initial spend on a card so I opened a savings account in October for $1000, funded with card (also billed as purchase). No bonus for this account obviously, but easy way to finish off the minimum spend for a card bonus.

    Thanks DoC!

  49. JDoc208 says:

8/8: Applied for account online; Funded with $1000 from Chase Freedom Unlimited
8/10: Account activated; applied for online access; online access granted; $1000 cleared (coded as purchase)
11/14: Called regarding the bonus not received yet; was told to call back during normal business hours when “that department” is open
11/15: Called again and was told that bonuses go out in weekly increments and to call back on 11/18 if bonus not received
11/18: Called again and was told that bonuses got out in batches a couple of times a month and to call back in a week if not received by then
11/30: Called again and was told that the bonus “should be in there by the end of this of week”
12/8: Called again and was told that there was a problem with the system and that I will have the bonus “by the end of the day”; $100 bonus received later in the day
    12/13: Account withdrawn to $0
12/15: Attempted to close account via online chat but was told that it would close automatically in a few weeks because it had $0 balance
1/3: Logged into account and could see that it was closed
