The Fine Print

  • Qualifying direct deposits are recurring electronic deposits of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your Employer or the Government. Person-to-Person and bank transfers between your TD Bank accounts or accounts you have at other financial institutions or brokerages do not qualify.
  • Offer is available to new personal checking Customers who do not have an existing or prior personal checking account at TD Bank, open their account online via this web page and complete the required qualifying criteria.
  • $200 bonus offer available to eligible new personal checking Customers when opening a TD Premier CheckingSM account with cumulative direct deposit funds of $2,500 or more into the new account within 60 days of account opening.
  • $100 bonus available to eligible new personal checking Customers when opening a TD Convenience CheckingSM account with cumulative direct deposit funds of $500 or more into the new account within 60 days of account opening.
  • Once the offer criteria is met, the bonus will be credited into the new personal checking account no later than 95 days from account opening. Account must remain open, active, in good standing, and in the same product type through the qualifying period to receive the bonus.
  • Bonus will be reported as taxable income to the IRS on a 1099-MISC.
  • Offer may be withdrawn at any time and is subject to change.
  • One bonus per Customer and cannot be combined with any other offer.
  • TD Bank employees and Canadian cross-border banking Customers are not eligible

Avoiding Fees

TD Convenience Checking $15 Monthly Fee

This is waived if you have a minimum daily balance of $100

TD Premier Checking $25 Monthly Fee

This is waived if you have a minimum daily balance of $2,500

Early Account Termination Fee

According to this comment no early account termination fee.

In their online fee schedule, there is no mention of an early account termination fee. Whereas on this help page they say there is an early account termination fee of $15 if you close the account within 90 days. That page does redirect to the Canadian site so that may be the difference. In any case, we’ll be cautious and say to keep the account for 90 days before closing.

Our Verdict

It’s not much harder to meet the requirements for the $200 offer (or to keep it fee free) so I’d strongly recommend everybody go for that offer rather than the $100 offer available. TD Bank usually offers a free item for sign up (valued at less than $150) or a $150 bonus when they open a new branch, so this is significantly better than those offers. Only problem is we don’t really know what will trigger the direct deposit requirement.

All that being said, this is definitely one of the better bank account bonuses available at the moment, if I lived in the target area I’d definitely be signing up for this. We’ve added this to our list of the best bank account bonuses currently available.

Update: If you run into an issue with them being unable to verify your identity try using your passport instead of your drivers license.

  1. Gary says:

If you’ve ever had checking asking l account, you’re ineligible? :'(

    • If you’ve ever had one with TD Bank, looks like you’re ineligible yes.

    • David says:

I’ve received two bonuses from TD Bank in the past. The first bonus was in February 2015 and the second was April 2016. I was targeted for the second account (new branch), so I’m not sure if that’s what allowed me to get the bonus again… The first bonus was not targeted.

  2. AE says:

I have a td bank account and am therefore ineligible however – my wife does not and she could apply.

I do not see any mention of limit one per household – anyone ever applied for 2 td bank checking accounts at the same address and received both bonuses?

    • chasejuggler says:

We have had pretty good luck with doubling up on bank bonuses. But I can’t speak for TD bank specifically.

We’re going for it on this one. Keeping $2500 tied up for 60 days is a pretty low risk for a good shot at $300 if you ask me.

    • DDG says:

Yes, you will receive the bonus more than once per household. I’ve tested up to three.

    • Ben says:

Yes, I had no problem with 2 Conv Checking from same household in new accounts opened Oct 2015, 150 bonus posted for each in Nov 2015. However I am disappointed by the language indicating prior account holders even of a different product would not be eligible for another bonus, given the $300 bonus is more enticing. But remains to be seen if that condition is enforced. I’ll probably wait until the 1 year mark and if the $300 offer sticks around, try for that and get a DP.

    • Deezy says:

      YES,
wife and I just did it. 3 months apart from each other. Both got bonuses. 🙂
Real question is if we can do it again for 2017..?? Anyone…

  3. Matt says:

FYI if you want to see your routing and account number immediately, click “download form” under “Direct deposit” on the application complete page.

  4. Brian K says:

Would recommend sticking with TD Bank after the bonus posts…they are great! Truly exceptional customer service. I’ve never been disappointed in 2 years. They are great about waiving fees (monthly account fees for dropping below the required minimum balance to keep fee free) if you simply call customer service.

    • tony morone says:

Give them time…..they are masters at holding transactions back then whacking you with fees. It got so bad for me at TD I actually caused a scene at the branch. They are leeches!

  5. Zach says:

Any recent DPs on ACH counting for the DD requirement?

  6. Keith says:

Anyone else here getting errors with them validating information. I tried twice and they had issues both the times verifying my identity

    • Somebody suggested using your passport instead of drivers license.

      • Anita says:

I see this “suggestion” to try using a passport. Curious the source of this suggestion. All links on THIS particular post say that their passport didn’t work. As it didn’t work for me. I’m wondering if ANYONE on this thread (or others?) was indeed successful with a passport?

    • Joel83 says:

Just type as many numbers from your license # until the bar turns green and stop there. Don’t type the rest. That did it for me.

  7. Leo says:

Same question as Zach, can anyone confirm which ACH counts as DD?

  8. Keith says:

DP Here – Wife opened an account and we were able to fund with a GCM Visa card

  9. James says:

I didn’t see the availability limited to the states you mentioned in the link you provided. Is that mentioned somewhere?

    • James says:

Never mind. I clicked on the link and tried to open up an account. The address pull down menu limits to the aforementioned states only.

  10. Kyle says:

I signed up for the Premier Checking Account earlier this morning and tried to fund $300 with a CSP that has a cash advance limit of $100. I just received an email from TD Bank that said the initial deposit was unsuccessful.

  11. Arthur says:

Possibly chase credit card no longer work. I used chase united card to fund 300, and now the charge is pending, and my cash advance limit is 300 less.

    • Arthur says:

Update on my chase united funding. Today the 300 transaction is finally posted. To my surprise, it is posted as “sale” with a description “Visa Transfer, NJ US
Online, Mail, or Telephone transaction” and a reward of 300 miles. And my cash advance limit went back to the original number. Anyway I paid the balance immediately to avoid any hidden interest. The statement will be out in ten days, and I will let you guys know if it is really a purchase or not.

  12. Phil says:

Does anyone know what counts as a DD?

  13. Bob says:

I’m getting ‘unable to verify identity’. Anyone else?

  14. Joe says:

I have a TD Bank checking account ~ 6 years ago. That account is closed 5 years ago.
Can I qualify for these $300 or $150 promotions at this time?
    Thank you very much!

  15. Ryan says:

Just to save you guys from the hassle, order the debit card.

Without it, I can’t open an online account and I have to call the bank to get an account set up…

    • Chris says:

Blah, I should have read this first. I should have checked the box for the debit card but didn’t. I assumed I would be getting a regular ATM card instead, but apparently not. Now I have to call up to get the card set up online access.

  16. Larry says:

Anybody going to try using ACH as DD method…if so which bank are you pushing from? tia

  17. scott says:

I’m finding it very difficult to open this up on-line. First they can’t validate me with driver’s license. Then with passport it asks for machine code at bottom? Are you kidding? I have no idea if I entered all those characters correctly, but it still couldn’t verify me.

  18. Harold says:

The online funding from a bank account requires that you give them the login credentials for the other bank. It gave a cryptic error message when I tried to fund with Incredible Bank. My guess is that the system didn’t know how to log into Incredible Bank. I tried using CIT Bank, and it silently failed, just going to the acknowledgement page. I suspect that this is because CIT changed their online system a few days ago. I now need to go to a branch to do the funding. According to their phone CSR, no monthly fee is assessed for the first month as long as the first deposit for the account meets the minimum deposit required, so it needs to be $2,500 for the Premier Checking account.

    Other notes:
The maximum funding from an online account is of $2,500.
Setting up online banking requires a debit card, otherwise you need to phone in to set it up. So consider getting the debit card, even if you don’t need it.
If you use credit card funding, you will likely be assessed a monthly fee for the first month for the Premier Checking account since they only allow $300 funding this way.

  19. Moshe says:

Attempted to fund $300 using Chase IHG with $100 cash access line. I received an email stating that the funding was unsuccessful, and it must be funded at a branch within 45 days. Seems like Chase is a no go (?)

  20. Taylor says:

Chase Ink Cash was denied for funding. $20 CA-LOC as a reference point.

  21. Alex says:

does CSP or SPG from AMEX works as non cash advanced for this $300 fund?

  22. Eric says:

Tried to fund with a United MPE with $20 CAL.

Got an email saying it was unsuccessful.

  23. Peter says:

Successfully funded $300 with Chase Freedom with CA limit of $800. Shows up as cash advance while pending, posted as purchase.

  24. Can says:

Tried to find the checking with chase United explorer with cash limit of $300. Got declined, and was told to find the account in a branch.

  25. V says:

funded with citi forward (3x typ retention offer), posted under purchases, coded as ‘MORTGAGE COMPANIES-FINANCIAL INSTITUTION’

  26. John says:

Funded with Citi AA Platinum coded as a cash advance despite the old data point saying it would code as a purchase

  27. Reed says:

Funded with Freedom Unlimited…coded as cash advance. A buddy of mine said he used his CSP and it also coded as a cash advance.

    • DJ says:

Chase codes as a cash advance initially, but posts as a purchase. Are you saying it posted as a cash advance and you were charged a cash advance fee on both Freedom and CSP?

Any data points about Chase IHG card?

      • Reed says:

Yes! It posted as a cash advance and I was charged a fee. I’m not sure about my friend since I didn’t ask.

  28. Lagerback says:

CC funded $300 w/ BofA Cash Rewards and counted as purchase:

    Transaction type: Purchases
Merchant description: FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS -MERCHANDISE AND SERV

  29. Patrick says:

I was considering signing up for TD bank. My old bank is making me mad.

I do have the Chase Freedom but I am confused how do you guys use this to make it count as direct deposit? that stuff always confuses me a lot.

  30. Glay Teru says:

Used my United Explorer to fund the $300 initial deposit; at first the cash advance limit dropped, but eventually posted as Sales. No CA fee and got 300 miles rewards for that.

  31. Dan says:

Funded $300 with Barclay Arrival+. Coded as Cash Advance. Hit with a fee. Bummer. Still worth it though.

  32. Arthur says:

After opening the account, I transferred 2500 from Discover online savings. Today the transaction is posted, with the type DIRECTDEP.

  33. tinker25 says:

    @Arthur

The initial CC funding of $300 is also listed as DIRECTDEP

    Type DIRECTDEP

    Description TD BANK P2P

what does the Discover savings’ Description say?

  34. Alex says:

    when this offer expire?

  35. Turbo says:

After reading the application page, I don’t find any terms says this promotion only limited to “CT, DC, DE, FL, MD, ME, MA, NC, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, SC, VT, & VA”.
Where did u find these limits. I’m in TX, not sure if it’s worth a try.

  36. DJ says:

Just FYI for those who open the account online. Online banking is not automatically enabled. Strange as you actually opened the account online!!

Once you receive your debit card, call this number: 800-493-7562 and ask them to enable online banking. They will ask you to verify your account number, date of opening the account and transaction amount

    • larry says:

Hello, it’s never been automatic opening any online account. The basic reason is you need to secure the account. Putting all those problems aside, still a goddamn good deal for a few minutes of time!

  37. Chuck says:

Someone of Fatwallet found a link which states that ACH works for direct deposit on the TD bank bonus deal. Lots of people were asking.

    http://tdbank.com/popup/qualified-direct-deposit-popup.html
    https://fatwallet.com/forums/finance/1510502/

It’s not clear what that link is referring to but it’s looking good for ACH to work.

    • Jason says:

Qualifying direct deposits are recurring electronic deposits of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your Employer or the Government. Person-to-Person and bank transfers between your TD Bank accounts or accounts you have at other financial institutions or brokerages do not qualify.

  38. Rose Chen says:

Did anyone receive $300 bonus after ACH $2,500 to the account?

  39. Vasv says:

Opened a/c 7/5/16. Funded with BOA mlb card(with CA set to $200) but got an email few hrs later as initial funding unsuccessful.
“This e-mail is to notify you that the funding of your new TD Bank account has been unsuccessful.
Please visit your local TD Bank store to make your initial deposit. Unfunded accounts are automatically closed after forty-five business days”

  40. Keith says:

Has anyone seen a bonus yet? If so what triggered it? tia

  41. averwind says:

Got the ATM card and have the account number after successful application but I just got locked out trying to signup for online banking. Noone answers the phone… Weird bank..

    • Vasv says:

Which number did you try? I got the atm card today and just setup my online account thru the cust support as i dont have the account number only the debit card. I called 800-493-7562 to setup onine id, as DJ mentioned in the few comments above

    • steve J says:

I second your comment that TD bank is quite weird…..or simply terrible. I opened a charge card based on a promotion I received in the mail. Applied on line, input the promotional code, received the credit card but TD “lost” the promotional code. Customer service useless. Had to talk to a corporate officer to resolved the problem. Tried to sign up for an online account. Was locked out. Was told by customer service to travel 1000 miles to the nearest branch. Useless out of control bank….So I never was able to set up an on line account. Was considering going after this promotion but not sure the $300 is worth the pain. The only way these financial institutions improve is by filing a complaint with the Office of the comptroller of the currency….the Federal office that oversees all Banks doing business in the US. .

  42. Daryl J says:

Has anyone had any luck with ACH as dir dep triggering the bonus??

  43. Josh m says:

My ach push from discover is showing as p2p, which I’m not too optimistic about…

  44. Vasv says:

same my ally ach to TD bank shows as below. Type is showing directdep but the description says as P2P.

    “07/14/2016 DIRECTDEP ALLY BANK P2P”

  45. Pam says:

Funded with my BofA Cash Rewards card with cash advance limit set to $200… account was funded and transaction showed as a purchase – “TD Bank Visa TransferNJ”

  46. Chris says:

Funded account with $300 from Chase Freedom, finally posted. Shows up as Visa Transfer, NJ, Online, Mail, or Telephone transaction. Not cash advance!

  47. Luke says:

Only seeing the ‘Free Samsung Galaxy’ offer when loading the page. Anyone else seeing this offer? How do you get he $300 bonus offer to show/register?

  48. Abhi says:

Is this offer still available? I called TD bank customer care and they said this offer expired on July 3rd.

  49. Chuck says:

Looks like it’s expired. Let me update.

  50. averwind says:

Did anyone get their bonus yet? How long after $2500 DD should we expect to see the bonus?

  51. Ann D says:

This post is regarding TD Bank $300 premier checking account bonus, I posted same comment earlier on a different thread.

ACH $2500.00 from TD Ameritrade to TD Bank on Thursday. Fund arrived on Friday morning.

    DirectDeposit: TD Amertrade ACH OUT.

Check everyday after fund confirmed. NO SAME DAY OR ANY BONUS.

One reader posted Ally ACH to TD Bank had triggered same day $300 bonus for him.

    Will update BONUS status.

  52. averwind says:

My DD posted on 18th no bonus as well. I previously messaged them to confirm if I am enrolled in promo all they did was to send me a canned response saying I must apply through the special page etc etc. Looks this will be a 3 months wait…

  53. Digi K says:

ACH $2500 from ETrade to TDBank – posted 7/14 – still no bonus

ACH from ETrade has usually triggered bonuses for me in the past (with M&T Bank, Key, and First Niagara)

Will have to wait and see if bonus posts here

  54. Ann D says:

An Update for TD Bank $300 bonus.

Rec. First statement cycle ended 07/26/2016.

    Verdict: NO BONUS.

  55. Roque Corona says:

Opened the account a few weeks ago. Did an ACH from Ally of $2,500 to try and meet DD. TYPE says “DIRECTDEP” but DESCRIPTION says “Ally Bank P2P.” No bonus posted yet.

Sent a SM to TD asking to confirm that I received a DD in the amount of $2,500 (from the Ally ACH). This was their response:

“Our records indicate that you received a Person to Person Transfer into your account on 07/18 in the amount of $2,500.00. Recurring salary, pension or Social Security deposits qualify for the account promotion that you’ve mentioned. Electronic funds transfers from accounts at other financial institutions do not qualify at this time.”

I got the same basic response from PNC bank a few months ago when I did a similar ACH transfer for a DD. They told me I wouldn’t get the bonus but I actually did end up getting it in the end. So it might still work for this TD bank bonus.

Just in case I’ll be transferring the money to Capital One 360 and trying it again with ACH push on their end.

  56. John Smith says:

I fulfilled my 3k Direct deposit from employer but still no bonus. Account opened June 13, first statement 6/25 second statement 7/25.
How long will it take for them to post the bonus?

  57. averwind says:

Sent them a message on weekend asking when bonus will post, no response still. This is getting weird…

    • averwind says:

“For Eligible accounts, please allow at least 95 days upon completing your transactional requirements to receive the deposit into qualifying accounts. İ

  58. dan says:

I did capital one. Description is “CAPITAL ONE N.A. CAPITALONE”, doesnt say anything about P2P. No bonus posted yet. opened 6/14, did push on 6/23.

  59. Becks says:

This offer is back and I just signed up for it

    • Chuck says:

      Thanks! I’ll update.

      • Gary says:

You should correct the date on the post to say 8/10, not 9/10. Thanks as always, DoC.

This is ridiculous. Not a single person is reporting receiving the bonus? It’s over 6 weeks. Last TD promotion I did (15 debit card txns, $150) was under 10 days. I know one person who reported getting bonus for this. I’ll ask him for details.

        • Eric says:

Did you sign up? Don’t the terms state that previous customers aren’t eligible? Do you think that’s not enforced?

  60. Ryan says:

I signed up last time and still haven’t gotten the bonus.

Legit $2500 deposit from my payroll.

  61. TJ says:

The state limitation is frustrating. The strange part is I just opened a TD Ameritrade account and there was an option to open a checking account! Does TDA have it’s own separate bank? Bizarre.

  62. max says:

has anyone actually received a bonus? If so, what method did you use and how long did it take?

  63. Jason says:

So if I walk in to branch and apply there, I shouldn’t be denied due to too many inquiries on Chex system right?

    • Don’t think how you apply matters.

      • Jason says:

I opened mine online, said approved, even seeing the last few digits of the account number. Funded with Bank of America Travel Reward credit card $300, card is not charged instantly. I have cash limit set at $200. I hope TD bank don’t send me a mail a few days later saying they cannot open one for me due to too many inquiries on Chex or so.

    • Nate says:

When I was going to apply for this a while ago they couldn’t verify my identity and I called. The CSR said the only way to get the bonus was to apply online.

  64. Jon says:

Finally received my bonus. My DD was June 23rd.

Also does anyone know if I can downgrade to the lower tier checking account without any fees or clawbacks? I’m interested in staying with TD Bank but the 25 dollar fee if I don’t have 2500 is unappealing

  65. Arthur says:

I received the bonus today. I used discover online savings as DD on June 10, so it only takes like 60 days.

  66. Ryan says:

Just got my bonus today, legit payroll though, so not much of a datapoint.

  67. Pavel says:

Bank failed to verify my identity. Tried both with driving license and passport. No luck.

    • Phil says:

I had the same problem last time this bonus was available. It worked this time for me though. I actually think it wasn’t working because my drivers license was about to expire. I got a new drivers license last month and it worked this time.

  68. Jon says:

DD on June 23. Bonus awarded today (August 11). Quick question for anyone- since I’ve received the bonus already do you think I can downgrade the account type without any penalties?

  69. Tim says:

Bonus Received today as well – looks like they processed them all at once?

  70. Phil says:

Applied and tried funding with Chase FU. I just got an email from TD that said it was unsuccessful. I saw the successful message after finishing the application. Weird..

  71. Chris says:

Still no bonus for me. I applied on July 14th, so I guess I’ll wait another month and see what happens. Looks like all the people that got the bonus today applied in June.

    • Happy_Harry says:

I signed up June 17 and no bonus so far. I didn’t send my direct deposit until July 11 though. Maybe that’s the date they go off of?

  72. John Smith says:

I received the bonus as well. Is there household restriction? Can my spouse sign up?

  73. FPN says:

Got my bonus 12 days after finishing DD requirements. Acct opened in June. Used actual payroll.

  74. Yao says:

Use Citi Prestige as funding source. Coded as cash advance. 🙁

  75. Phil says:

Do you need to wait for the Welcome pack to be able to make the online account? If so, how long does that usually take to receive?

    • Chris says:

You need the debit card number to sign up for online access. Make sure you check the box for a debit card when you sign up or you’ll have to call up and wait another week to get one in the mail. If you’re near a branch you can stop by and get one there too.

The signup for online access is here: https://onlinebanking.tdbank.com/enroll/en_enroll_splash.asp

It only took about a week for me to get the welcome packet, but I unchecked the option for a debit card so I couldn’t get online access for another week or so while I waited for it to come in. Was annoying.

    • Vasv says:

Once you submit application, same day you can just stop by any TD and request for a debit card and setup online access immly. no need to wait for welcome packet

  76. Ann D says:

Hello! For those who received their TD bonus in August, PLEASE share your DD method for data point.

    Thanks.

  77. Dan says:

Received bonus as well! Cap One 360 ACH transfer on 6/23, bonus posted on 8/10

  78. tinker25 says:

DD vid Discover 6/30, DD via payroll 7/15 as well, no bonus yet

  79. Sparky says:

    Bonus received. DD via USAA.

    • Elisha Greenwald says:

How did your usaa post? I haven’t received the bonus yet. This is how mine posted…

      09/16/2016 DIRECTDEP USAA CHK-INTRNT TRANSFER $2,500.00 $2,500.00

  80. Pablo says:

So the credit card funding online got denied when I tried to fund my account with $300 but only because my cash advance limit was $20. I decided to walk into a local branch near me after a few days and asked them if I could fund my account with a credit card. I asked them what was the limit and they said there wasn’t any? Not sure if this is due to being in branch vs online but if I can fund $2,500 into the account using my BofA Cash Rewards CC, that would be cool. I’ll report back here soon to let you guys know soon as I plan to fund it tomorrow in branch.

  81. Bungy says:

Data point: opened online with $300 from US Bank flex perks. Came through as a purchase.

Also another vote for getting the debit card, even though you don’t need one. You definitely can’t create a mobile access account without BOTH an account number and debit card number. This was easy for me since I live two blocks from a branch but just a heads up for everyone.

  82. Rose says:

I still did not receive bonus. Capital One Checking ACH transfer on 6/30.

  83. Vic says:

    06/09/16 – Opened account online
    06/13/16 – $2501 DD posted
    08/10/16 – $300 bonus posted.

  84. Jason says:

TD bank has friend referral bonus only for opening account in branch, each will get $25. Easiest way to fulfill their requirement is to use debit card to make 15 purchases via google wallet. Good that it can be done together with new account bonus.

  85. Tory says:

Bonus posted today – Chase ACH transfer worked. No obvious timeline between transfer and bonus (e.g. integer number of weeks, 30/60 days, etc.)

  86. John says:

There is no way to fund an account by mailing them a check? Requiring an in-branch visit is pretty much a no-go for me.

  87. RG says:

Bonus posted today for me as well. Transfer from Wells Fargo Checking during application was coded as Direct Deposit. AMEX Personal Savings ACH transfers were also coded as Direct Deposit.

$2500 Funded 6/15/2016. Additional $2500 in DD using AMEX Personal Savings 7/12. Bonus today 8/25.

  88. pearl says:

I received the $300 using ACH credit from last offer but this sentence “Qualifying direct deposits are recurring electronic deposits of your paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your Employer or the Government. Person-to-Person and bank transfers between your TD Bank accounts or accounts you have at other financial institutions or brokerages do not qualify.” has been added for this offer in T&C”

I am not sure if the ACH could work for this offer.

  89. Eric says:

Has anyone that received a bonus previously received a bonus from TD before?

    • Eric says:

That was worded badly. I meant to write “Has anyone that received a bonus for this offer previously received a bonus from TD?”

  90. Phil says:

Do we know when the DD requirement updated? My DD from Ally posted to the account on 8/24 and it says it was “Ally P2P DIRECTDEP”. Will this count or no?

  91. Phil says:

Anyone live more than 50 miles or so from a TD branch able to open and keep open an account with them? The nearest branch for me is probably 75 miles away and don’t want to have a repeat of what occurred with Webster Bank which closed my account for being too far (but within a state where they do business) from a local branch.

  92. Jason says:

Oh no, I opened up the account this month but now got the feeling that existing ways for doing DD will not work anymore

  93. Natklin says:

How long does it take for a signature card to arrive? It’s been almost three weeks since I opened my account online. Already received a debit card and checks. Thanks!

    • Chris says:

I don’t remember having to sign any signature card for TD Bank. Once the account was opened, I got the checks and debit card in the mail, then I signed up for online banking access and that was it. Pretty easy.

  94. yussuf says:

just funded 300 with quicksilver, anyone knows TDs routing or do i have to wait for my checks?

  95. Ann D says:

I was told by the phone representative a signature card is required for fund withdrawal at bank and check writing. Said signature card should contains inside the TD Welcome Package which I never receive. She suggested to stop by any local TD Bank and complete the signature card process ASAP and I did.

A guy who worked on the signature card at TD bank was extremely nosy. He looked through my transaction record and said my DD did not appear to be coming from payroll. I never said anything about DD or bonus. Hope this annoying individual did not flag my account because I refused every bank products he was trying to push to me.

BTW: DD on 07/14/2016, NO BONUS to date.

  96. Max says:

DP: Opened premier checking account, attempted to fund with Cap One Quicksilver ($10K credit limit with CA set to 0). Apparently went through, but an hour later I received an email saying that the transaction had been unsuccessful.

    • Max says:

Update: Cap One rejected the transaction due to “NOT ENOUGH AVAILABLE CASH” apparently it would’ve gone through as a cash advance.

  97. rd says:

I’m thinking of signing up with my parents’ address (MD) then changing it back to mine (CA). Reckon it’d work?

    • PhillipD says:

Changing your address could work if you use ID that doesn’t give away the fact you live somewhere else. A passport would not reveal this but a driver’s license would. You would have to leave your address alone during the promo window. If they got suspicious about a driver’s license address, they will probably ask you to visit a branch to open the account.

I asked TD Bank about residency in email and got a non answer to call in. I will try and do that today.

  98. Paul K says:

I can change my employer DD for next month to go into this account.

Is there a time limit on how soon you have to have those DD totaling $2500+ to qualify for bonus?

  99. Jason says:

I initiated two transfers from Key Bank and from Chase into my TD bank checking account. The type of transaction they put is “DIRECTDEP”, can I say those are determined as Direct Deposit?

09/01/2016 DIRECTDEP JPMORGAN CHASE EXT TRNSFR
    08/31/2016 DIRECTDEP KEY WEB MICRO-DP MICRO-DEP

By the way, the one for Key bank is only a trial deposit that is used to verify external account.

  100. Chris Williams says:

I could not find a minimum age on their site and it says fees waived for students under 24.

Question – I have 4 kids 7 to 15. Could I create an account for each ensuring the $2500 deposit goes in within time period then pull my $2500 from each account, giving them each an account of their own with $300 (bonus money) in it?

  101. Aaron says:

Just applied for this and tried initial funding with Chase Sapphire Reserve. It initially processed as a cash advance, so the transaction failed (my cash advance limit is $100). Not willing to see if this might have processed as a purchase.

  102. yussuf says:

Funded with my Capital one, coded as a cash advance, interest and all, bummer!

      • Jason says:

Hi William, I don’t see what credit card was that. Also on the “banks accounts that can be funded with credit card” page, under TD bank, 3 data points shows Capital One Silver coded as purchase but only Capital One Spark business coded as cash advance. Can you clarify where yussuf’s DP added to?

I funded $300 with Capital One Visa signature and it says “other services”, “available cash” drops so the pending status at least is a cash advance. I don’t know whether it will later on convert to purchase.

  103. Nancy says:

Used employer deposit total $3000 posting 8/5 and bonus posted yesterday, 9/6.

  104. Matt says:

Received my bonus today…Account opened June 24th.

  105. Rose says:

Received my bonus today…Account opened June 30th from Capital One ACH.

  106. Ann D says:

    06/28/16. Account opened online
06/29/16. Funded account in person at TD Bank
    07/14/16 DD TD Ameritrade $2500
    08/14/16 DD TD Ameritrade $2500
    09/06/16. $300 bonus posted

TD Ameritrade Brokerage account ACH works as Direct Deposit.

  107. Adam says:

Has anyone tried closing or downgrading the Premier account? Is the consensus to wait 90 days?

  108. Kevin says:

I saw someone get bonus using discover saving account and other people say p2p can’t trigger the bonus.
I transferred money from my discover saving account and it says ‘discover bank p2p under DD type’. Does it trigger the bonus or not? If not, how should I transfer it (other than p2p)?

  109. Zach says:

DP: $300 bonus for Premier posted 9/6 after Charles Schwab ACH transfer on 7/15.

    Thanks for everything you do!

  110. Sean says:

    Opened account online 6-16-16
Cash deposit at local branch 700.00 6-20-16
ACH push from CapOne 2500.00 6-30-16, listed as TD BANK NA P2P in transactions
No bonus as of today, 9-16-16, getting nervous

    • Captain_America says:

Hopefully it shows up in the next batch run.,

      • Chris says:

I hope so too. Opened mine 07/18/2016, so it’s been 2 months. Initial deposit $300 using Chase Freedom. ACH push total of $2501 from Ally over a few transfers a few days later. Even transferred some more from Chase. Still no bonus posted. Looks like I might have to wait up to another month then.

        • Sean says:

Correction: My push on 6-30 was from Ally, not CapOne.
Never got the bonus, waited 100 days. Closed acct and chalked it up to a data point.

  111. M.V. says:

DP: Funded $100 as opening deposit with BoA MLB Mastercard, charged as a cash advance. Luckily only $10 charge.

  112. Captain_America says:

I funded 7/14 with ACH push from my bank. No bonus yet either. Still have some time before the 90 days, but I am wondering if I will receive it. My wife is in the same situation.

    • Original funding never counts for the direct deposit requirement.

      • Captain_America says:

        William Charles,

I am a novice at this, and you are probably correct.

I did call TD Bank at an earlier date and asked the rep if my deposit qualified. He looked at the internal info on their offer, said there were two deposit codes that qualified. Then he looked at my deposit and said it was one of the acceptable codes, and concluded that my deposit was qualified.

Normally I don’t accept anything a rep says as gospel because they often don’t know what they are talking about. This guy did seem to know and did check the details, not just speaking off the top of his head.

So…I bow to your experience, but I hope you are wrong in this case.

I have not seen anyone who opened their account in July report receiving the bonus yet, so I am still hopeful it will go through. The offer says it takes up to 90 days, so there are still a couple weeks left. Most people reporting getting their bonus in two months though, and it has been over two months for me, so I am feeling less confident.

      • Captain_America says:

DW and I both received our bonuses overnight.

        Data Point:
        Account opened July 5, 2016
Account funded through ACH push from Capital One 360: July 14, 2016
        Bonus received: September 22, 2016

  113. Matt says:

I opened my account on July 14th or 15th, funded it through two $1,250 transfers from Schwab on July 20th and 21st, and received the $300 bonus today/yesterday. Also, I previously had a TD bank account that I closed in spring of 2013. Not sure if it matters but I doubt it was the premiere checking option.

  114. Vasv says:

    Received bonus $300!!

7/5/2016 – a/c opened online. failed cr card funing with boa mlb

    07/14/2016 DIRECTDEP ALLY BANK P2P $2,500
    08/17/2016 DIRECTDEP DISCOVER BANK P2P $2,500
08/31/2016 DIRECTDEP JPMORGAN CHASE EXT TRNSFR $2,500
09/21/2016 CREDIT CREDIT TD Online Offer Bonus Summer 2016 $300.00

  115. Ellie Arroway says:

Received my $300 bonus yesterday. Opened the account on 7/5. Did the ACH transfer from Discover savings on 7/14. Received the bonus on 9/21.

  116. Chris says:

Looks like the latest batch was just processed!

Opened account on July 18th, funded $300 with Chase Freedom. I had to wait a few days to set up online banking because I didn’t get the debit card at first, but ACH push for $2501 from Ally posted on August 3rd. Got the bonus $300 today, September 22nd.

    • Chris says:

Not that it really matters, but small correction: The bonus technically posted yesterday September 22. Didn’t see it in the transaction history when I checked yesterday so assumed it was today.

  117. Jason says:

ACH from Discover on 9/15, but no bonus posted yet, guess it will take at least one month, according to above DP

  118. QL says:

DP: CA charged with BOA MLB

  119. Eduardo Baez says:

Opened account online on July 3rd, 2016. Account funded thru a $2,500 GS Bank ACH Transfer. This initial fund transaction posted on July 7th, 2016 as DIRECTDEP TD BANK P2P. Anyway, I decided to go with real direct deposits from my employer. The $2,500 threshold for real direct deposits was met on July 22nd, 2016. Las direct deposit was on September 2nd, 2016. Changed my employer direct deposit to HSBC on September 16th, 2016 to get HSBC $350 bonus. Got TD Bank $300 bonus on September 21st, 2016. It posted as TD Online Offer Bonus Summer 2016.

  120. James says:

To avoid the $25 fees, how soon should I deposit the $2500 to meet minimum daily balance? like the very next day?

  121. David says:

Will a Discover checking also trigger the bonus?

  122. Keith says:

Has anyone gotten a bonus and downgraded or closed their accounts?

  123. David M says:

Looks like this bonus has closed.

  124. jags4186 says:

Account opened 7/11. Deposited $2500 from Ally Bank on 7/13.

Still have not received $300 bonus.

The deposit was so long ago that the online account activity no longer shows the $2500 ACH and it’s “DirectDep” designation.

Between this and Citi busting my balls over a W9 for the $400 (I just filed a CFPB complaint for them) I am getting less and less interested in bank bonuses.

  125. SteveJ says:

Opened the account last week on line. For some odd reason the on line application would not accept initial funding using the routing and account number from other financial institution. This turned out to be a major problem and since there was no TD bank nearby had to mail in an initial deposit to activate account….which took a week to activate the account. So far I would give TD Bank a terrible rating….not only for its poor complex processes as compared to other finanacial institutions but for its terrible customer service wait times through their call centers. So far the worst finanicail instituions I’ve enoucntered have been TDbank, Citi and HSBC….all due to their terrible processes, inflexibility and not understanding the needs of the customer…and all with large bank bonuses. By far the best is Ally.

  126. sam says:

    Hey,
don’t see this two offers on your site
    http://tdbank.com/personalcreditcard/firstclassvisa.html
    and
    http://tdbank.com/aff03_cash200/

“Earn up to 25,000 bonus miles within the first 6 billing cycles of account opening, which equals a $250 statement credit towards travel ” CAN I use this bonus to buy MTA Subway Cards (New York Metro Card) ?
    Thanks

  127. Anita says:

This is STILL ACTIVE. Here’s the TD landing page that says:
Open a TD Premier Checking account from this page
    http://tdbank.com/checking-aff-incentive-55/
From here, I opened an account and was instantly approved, and given an account number.

  128. Jan B says:

So far the comments don’t offer a lot of positives with the exception of the one that raved about TD back in early summer.

I have a DD who could do this and I could manage a DD to hit the target. A branch is practically around the corner from us. But, the comments make me hesitate. I have already banked with TD as a prior customer, so I cannot do this.

So, I also thought the magic deal was change CC CA to “$0” to trigger funding at the purchase level. Guess I don’t understand if those who got hit with CA level had, in fact, requested CA to $0. If so, is there a default by the bank to reset to CA if bank automation funding request is received and the purchase level is just flat out ignored? Would be good to know. TIA.

    • Anita says:

Jan. The areas of negativity you mention in the comments seem to revolve around (1) will they accept this or that credit card for initial funding? (2) will that credit card charge me a cash advance fee? (3) What if I closed an account 2 months ago? (4) I failed the security identification process? (5) I don’t live in one of those states, can I pretend I do? etc etc. I applied and was immediately approved. I did NOT fund with a credit card. I live in a valid state and have a drivers license to match. If your dd’s situation is similar, she is likely to have success.

  129. Swapnil says:

Does anyone have any confirmation that this offer is still active and that affiliate link is good to use to open new account? Does calling bank helps to verify or its bad idea?

  130. Matt P says:

I applied last week and was approved. You have to wait for your signature card in the mail in order to fund it or just go to a branch after signing up and do it like I did.

  131. Jeff says:

Has anyone who opened this account in August received their bonus? I opened 8/10 and am still waiting. I’ve seen most people received it about 2 months after. Looking for data points please.

    • jags4186 says:

I pushed $2500 from Ally on 7/13. That means Sunday 10/16 is 95 days. I’m hoping to see the $300 by Monday 10/17 or else I think I’m screwed.

      • Daniel says:

Just so you know I pushed 2500 from Ally on 8/1 and got my bonus on 9/21, maybe you should call?

        • jags4186 says:

I’m afraid to call because then human eyes will see and say it won’t count. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that it posts within the 95 days.

The question is, does anyone have a screenshot of the offer from back in June/July where it doesn’t state it can’t be a transfer from another bank?

  132. CR7 says:

No luck with registration, both passport and DL couldn’t be verified 🙁

  133. Bungy says:

    Data Point:

successfully funded with a US bank flexperks card in August.

    coded as a purchase.

    Still waiting on the bonus.

  134. Jeff says:

So from reading the comments on here the batch processing dates so far have been:

    Wed/Thurs 8/10 – 8/11
    Thurs 8/25

    Tues/Wed 9/6 – 9/7
    Wed 9/21

Took a lot of comment reading. It appears there’s some type of pattern here depending on when your DD/ACH posted. Looks like they are batch processing twice per month, around the same time, APPROX 60 days after. My ACH posted on 8/18, so hoping bonus will post this week sometime. If not, maybe it will post in the second patch processing for October. Post your recent data points. This info should help.

  135. Swapnil says:

anyone opened the account recently in October?

    • Anita says:

Yes, opened an account on Oct 9 from the link I supplied in my post above of the 9th. Instant approval and given an account number instantly too.

    • PMD says:

Opened mine today. App process is pretty ugly and unfriendly on the web. I did not want to get stuck funding in a branch, considering I am on the other side of the state for the nearest one, so I went with an ACH transfer. TD only seemed to like major banks for that process. No go on my local credit union, but they accepted one from Key Bank.

Identity questions are pretty intense. Name of town where a close relative owns property, companies you’ve been associated with, and cars you own. Choosing a username is odd because a number is required in that name. TD claims you get one free order of 50 checks, but “free” becomes around $6 after outrageous shipping and handling charges are included from the third party processor. Never pay to expedite check orders. They always arrive within two weeks no matter what option you choose.

Web interface is run of the mill, if not slightly outdated. The bank’s web presence does not invoke the friendliness their tag line seems to suggest. You can get your whole account number and assigned routing number by choosing the direct deposit form, which populates all the info you need to do transfers.

I have to realign funds to start mass-hitting TD to see which will trigger the bonus. One thing I have learned from recent experience — make sure the names of the external account and TD match. I’ve used my husband’s account for one transfer and the security people go bananas and will lock down accounts when the names don’t match.

I think we’re also seeing an increased number of banks now getting stricter about not allowing bonuses to trigger on P2P transfers. Banks are supposed to code these transfers as P2P, but some still don’t. Alternatives are brokerage houses, for now.

I suppose it won’t be too long before someone starts a business checking account and sells payroll-style ACH services to bonus hunters. 🙂

  136. Bill says:

How much is typically earned by the affiliate for a single signup thru their link?

  137. Swapnil says:

I saw TD charges fees to transfer outside the bank. Do you know if its ACH withdrawal from other Bank will fall under the same or it will be fee free?

I was able to open a new account using affiliate link. Planning to use Chase account to trigger the bonus. Will keep posted.

  138. Jeff says:

My previous post about batch processing dates was correct! My bonus posted today, Thursday, 10/13 after a Serve ACH (datapoint) on 8/18. Next batch processing date will be Wed or Thurs, 10/26 or 10/27. My guess is your bonus will post if your ACH hit later in August. You can guess your bonus date accordingly with this post and my previous one. Long wait, but easy bonus.

  139. Stevej says:

Does anyone have experience setting up a link from an external bank to your TD bank account. Have tried sending trial deposits from two different external banks and both have failed….even though routing and account number is correct. Talking to a TD bank CSR it appears that TD may not allow external banks to link to your TD bank account….but the CSR seemed confused.

So far…TD bank customer service is the worst I’ve encountered…..truely “lengendary service”. My mail in check to fund the account is still pending at TD one week after the funds have been withdrwan from the source bank. Maybe the “Doc” could consider publishing a list/survey on the most “challenging” and “best” banks to deal with based on specific attributes. My worst is TD, Cit and HSBC while the best would be Ally

    • Swapnil says:

I was able to successfully link TD account to my chase account and do the transfer. TD has routing number specific to the states. I used the login to the bank instead of trial deposits to link external account.

      • stevej says:

Was the link established from your Chase account to your TD account or from your TD account to Chase.? I’m trying to establish the link from the external financial institution to TD to avoid TD transfer fees. In other words….. I want to pull funds from the TD account via the external account rather than pushing funds from the TD account.into the external account. By pulling funds rather than pushing funds one may bypass limits and/or fees placed on transferring out funds…..at least that is what I discovered with Citibank.

        • Swapnil says:

Link was established from my chase account to TD Account. I used TD bank login to verify the account when adding external account in chase.

          • SteveJ says:

Since you verified the account using the tD bank log in you may have set up the account TD to Chase rather than Chase to TD. Another phone call to TD CSR confirmed that TD does not allow external banks to link TD accounts….assuming you can believe TD CSRs. It does allow TD to link to external banks for the sole purpose of collecting $3 to $7 fees per transfer. Truely lengendary service.

  140. jags4186 says:

Does anyone have a screenshot of the offer from back in June/July that didn’t have the bank transfer stipulation? I transferred money on 7/13 from Ally and still have not received the bonus…

  141. nab says:

Data Point- Tried funding with Ink. Got an email that funding was unsuccessful and I have 45 days to go to branch.

    • stevej says:

FWIW I needed to fund the account by mail since the account would not accept external funding. Requires specific address and mail stop numbers located in Maine,…no local branch. Its been over a week since the check has cleared and yet only a $100 is available…the rest in pending. Going on week 3 from application date and week 2 for funding.

  142. Matt P says:

So, it took 5 days for my initial funding deposit of $2500 to hit the account and that was 5 days where it wasn’t in my USAA account that it pulled from and 5 days of TDBank saying they had no record of it. Definitely living up to their slogan of most convenient bank.

Anyway, it’s labeled as direct deposit, but I already switched my job’s DD over, so I’ll get it either way.

  143. ZEN says:

WHEN PEOPLE SAY THEY USED DISCOVER ONLINE SAVINGS ACCOUNT ARE THEY REFERRING TO THE ACTUAL SAVINGS OR THEIR MONEY MARKET ACCOUNT AS BOTH ARE SAVINGS ACCOUNT. AND HAS THIS BEEN DONE RECENTLY AS IT STATES ON THE SITE THAT IT MUST BE A PAYROLL CHECK.

  144. SteveJ says:

FWIW….it appears that TD bank does not allow external bank accounts to link to your TD account. It does allow TD to external bank links. So you can pull money into the TD account but you can’t push or pull money from an external bank to your TD account. This means there will be fees assessed when doing transfer out……and probably the reason why TD does not permit external banks to link to them…ie to collect fees. If this is incorrect please comment

The CSR also confirmed my mail in deposit will be fully available a mere 13 days after funds were withdrawn from my external account. Truely a lengendary bank.

    • Chris says:

I successfully linked my new TD in my Chase and Ally accounts, and push/pull works fine from them. It’s how I did the deposit of $2500.

Did you make sure you’re using the correct routing number for your area?

Or maybe you have to wait for the initial deposit before you can link accounts? Not sure.

      • Stevej says:

Thanks for your response……Did you establish the link from TD bank to Chase and Ally or did you establish the link from Chase and Ally to TD. From what I was told by TD CSR’s one cannot establish a link from an external bank to TD bank. there is no problem establishing a link from TD to external banks. However I believe you incur fees when pushing funds from TD. My account and routing number were correct. My links failed from Ally. Maybe the issue is the fact the full credit of the initial deposit is still pending….but there again the TD csr’s seem to indicate that links from external banks to tD ares not possible. In any event once the bonus hit I will close the account. Simply too much effort

        • PMD says:

I was easily able to ACH $2500 from Discover Checking into my TD Bank account, although it took 5 business days to post. It’s unlikely Discover Bank will now trigger a bonus, because it codes as P2P.

TD Bank will allow external originated transfers into TD Bank accounts without any problems.

As financial institutions are pushed to follow ACH guidelines, all such external transfers are already supposed to be labeled P2P, even though there are a few stragglers that don’t code them as such (but perhaps they do in a way customers don’t see but the bank can.) At some point in the near future, if banks seriously screen out P2P transfers for bonuses, this method of bonus triggering will be gone for good.

Does ach push from Ally Savings counts as Direct Deposit?

    • Stevej says:

I would first try to establish the link from Ally to TD and see if its successful. My two attempts from Ally failed even though the account number and routing number were correct. I then tried linking another external bank to my TD account and that also failed. My goal was to push funds into TD…..or pull fund to avoid TD fees. As mentioned above when I contacted two different TD CSRs regarding the problem linking external accounts to TD, they indicated it was not possible. Having said this it appears some people were successful in doing so. I decided to use a real direct deposit …

    Got my $300 bonus today!

Did an ACH push from Discover Savings which posted on 8/26.

Bonus showed up in my account today (10/27), but dated 10/26.

Downgraded the account to CONVENIENCE CHECKING, that’s $100 min. per day to avoid monthly fee $15.

TD charges ACH transfer out and I’m tired of test deposit from other’s bank, so I’ll be only using bill pay, not debit card withdrawal to dry out the account till $100.

Done $2500 ACH from Chase and from $2500 Citi to my parents TD accounts already, will advise if $300 still post. Might take more time to know.

This is a very long wait

    • Jason says:

I feel much comfortable now when I read your post because I opened up the accounts for my parents on 9/18 and did Chase and Citi transfers only. It looks to me that it will take about 60 days since the last DD that adds up to $2500, that being said I think it will be sometimes by end of November.

  152. Jeff says:

It’s been 90 days since I opened my account. Anyone have updated info on being safe to close acct without fee or clawback? Thanks.

    • Jason says:

I downgraded my account to the choice checking after bonus posted, because choice checking only requires $100 daily balance to waive the fee. I used bill pay to pay credit cards to bring down the balance from $3300 to $100. After that, I think you can call CS to close it without worrying about the drawback of bonus.

  153. Yang says:

Any data point for Discover checking as direct deposit?

  156. Phil says:

Does anyone know how long we have to keep this account open for after we receive the bonus? Also, what is the easiest way to close it? Should I ACH pull all the money out from my other bank account and then call to close the account? I don’t want to get hit with a $25 monthly fee.

    • larry says:

Two ways including the one you mentioned and calling them up through customer service which should mail you a check. Just remember if you go your route wait until they generate a statement, ACH and then close account. I believe they use a 30 day average on account balance.

Message: Will I get charged a fee if I close account?

  163. greyhk2 says:

Opened premier checking online on 9/3 with initial funding of $300 via debit card. Then ACH transferred the remaining $2200 from an online savings account to meet the $2500 minimum balance to avoid a fee.

Satisfied $2500 cumulative direct deposit requirement via traditional paycheck direct deposit by 9/30.

Finally received $300 bonus today, dated 11/23.

Has anyone had any luck closing the account at a branch in person immediately after receiving the bonus without getting charged a fee?

      • Stephanie says:

Thanks for the info. I haven’t done this before so I’m a little confused. Is an ACH transfer something special or is it just the ‘transfer money’ section I see on my Chase account page (doesn’t say ACH specifically)?

        • Eddy says:

Yes, click on “transfer money” then click on the drop down “transfer from” box. There you will see “add new external account” click on that and fill in fields as appropriate. You’ll need the TD bank routing number and your checking account number.

  165. Eddy says:

The offer is officially on the banks website now. You can now access directly instead of usinf affiliate link.

  166. Deena says:

Anyone figure out ways to have the bank verify identity?

    Tried DL, then PP.

We live in one of the authorized bonus offer States. We have a number of old addresses. We also have a mailbox forwarding address (in the U.S but not in the state in which the bonus is offered).

Are addresses listed in the Chexsystem the same or different than those on credit reports? Are these addresses the ones to use when applying for an online bank?

    • Brandon says:

Can’t get it to work for me, either. Tried several combinations of known Chex addresses. Called and they said there’s no way to verify or get promo over the phone. Bummer.

  167. Kk says:

To be clear, to use discover savings as funding, does it matter whether transfer is initiated from discover or TD bank?

    • Daniel says:

If you’re talking about the direct deposit requirement then Discover savings must push the funds to TD Bank, ie, do the transfer from the Discover website.

  168. VP says:

Did a Discover transfer however didn’t get the bonus due to ACH transfer

  169. dizzy says:

If I had an account with Commerce Bank that got transferred to T-D Bank (does anyone else think this name is hilarious) does that count? I’m assuming it does, but unsure as I didn’t actually “open” the account with TD Bank. FWIW it was by far the best bank in the area when I was younger (south Jersey). Great hours and customer service. Not sure if that’s still the case.

  170. Caitlyn says:

Opened TD bank online. Transferred $300 from Citi from initial page.
Can anyone tell me how to transfer more to meet $2500?

    Thanks!

  171. Carlos says:

    So here it is folks.
Tried twice to open an account for me and my wife and was unable to verify.
So I tried again and noticed that when I entered my DOB and scrolled away that it was defaulting back to a different date.
I called CS and they said this is a known issue.
So the 2nd and 3rd time for my wife and I went through fine with a DL and the proper DOB.
We were being declined due to improper DOB.
So go back and check when all done and make sure your DOB is correct.
Online banking is instant also once you sign up for it.

  172. Daniel says:

Zeroed out then closed TD Bank acct via phone. Rep mentioned that “because you have a zero balance I can go ahead and close the account.” Took like 2 minutes.

  175. Stephen says:

When I created my account, a second one was inadvertently created, and I had it closed as soon as I found out about it. I used Chase ACH to attempt to trigger the bonus, but it hasn’t posted yet. I’m concerned that the stray account is what’s preventing the bonus from triggering, that somehow they considered me an existing account holder, and therefore ineligible to receive the bonus.

Calling seems unwise, but on the off-chance anyone has any DPs about something similar with other bank bonuses, I’m all ears.

  176. Dave says:

They switched it to $200 now.

  177. Noah says:

The bonus for the Premier checking has unfortunately been lowered to $200.

  178. stevej says:

As a possible heads up…..went to downgrade my TD premier checking to convenience checking and noticed a pending transaction that according to the CSR was made through my debit card on 12/23.
The problem is the debit card has never been used……. so my debit card was hacked. According to the CSR the transaction was from PMD INQ DN subscription. Googling indicates some sort of subscription scam. You might want to check your accounts and take appropirate action if affected….close the debit card. According to the CSR…you need to wait until the change is fully posted in your account and then go through the dispute process. Another great customer experience with TD.

  179. Matt says:

Looks like the bonus for the Convenience checking account has also been lowered, from what I’m seeing. The direct link only shows a $100 offer for me, not $150.

Bummer, I was about to pull the trigger on that $300 bonus. Any data points on how often they increase/decrease the bonus offers, and if there’s any chance that $300 bonus would ever come back again in the future?

  180. Jimmy says:

    Just got the bonus today!

If I close this account, how long do I have to wait to get another checking bonus?

  181. Nate says:

This site rocks. Quick question–when you say keep the account open 90 days out of an abundance of caution, are you saying 90 days from when it was opened, or 90 days beyond when the sign-up bonus is awarded?

  190. Sarah N. says:

I just clicked on the link and it looks like there’s a $300 bonus again? Is that right?

  191. Stevej123 says:

For those who did the TD bank $300 promotion and received the bonus in 2016 have you receive a 1099 interest form from TD. I closed my account in Jan 2017 so I don’t if TD bank mails the 1099, is it available only electronically(which would be a problem since the account is closed) or is this particular bonus simply not reported. Usually these bank bonus are reported to the IRS.

    • Dave says:

I received my $300 bonus in November, 2016; closed the account in December. So far didn’t get any tax form so far.

      • steve123 says:

My concerned is the 1099 might be only available on line and with the closure of the account TD terminated all online account access. When I called Customer Service, she refused to answer any questions without going through a third party identity check even though I had the account number, passwords, etc and I was still viewable in their system.. Was not worth the effort. If t don’t receive a hard copy and end up getting a love note from the IRS I’ll file another complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of Currency. TD Bank indeed provides “Legendary Service”…sadly in my experiences it was terrible.

        • Daniel says:

1099 MUST be mailed. Even if you sign up for online statements, the entity must mail you a physical copy. So no concern there.

          • stevej123 says:

I hope you are correct. One data point I have which might point to the contrary is my TreasuryDirect account for maturing savings bonds. I’ve never received a mailed 1099, its always available on line and the interest is over the minimum. But maybe the Gov doesn’t have to follow the mailing rule.

    • Liang says:

My account is still open, but I have not received 1099 form yet…

    • MonetaryDragon says:

I did a similar promotion ($100 targeted offer after moving to a new address, no direct deposit) with TD bank in which the bonus was paid in 2016, and like others here, I have not received a 1099 from TD bank.

Everything from TD bank says that bonuses are reported to the IRS via 1099-MISC. My particular offer specified that my bonus *may be* reported to the IRA via 1099-MISC (my emphasis).

The IRS’ guidance on 1099-MISC forms, https://irs.gov/uac/about-form-1099misc, specifies that they are to be generated for other income of at least $600.

I am interpreting the fact that neither I nor any of the rest of us apparently have received 1099-MISC forms from TD bank as being due to us having earned bonuses worth less than $600, just like how 1099-INTs are not generated for amounts under $10.

  192. Simon Harwood says:

It’s possible that Ally Bank is not working as a trigger for the DD requirements. Will report back in a week

  193. Phillip Dampier says:

One of the two accounts in our household has been charged the $25 account maintenance fee despite maintaining a $2,500 balance. We assume it is an error and have written to them about it, but others should keep an eye on their statements.

  196. zoltan says:
