Synchrony Bank Credit Cards: A List, Best Cards & Easiest Cards To Get Approved For

Synchrony Bank is the consumer arm of Synchrony financial (formerly GE Capital Retail Finance Corporation), they are one of the biggest card issuers of store cards and store credit cards. They have partnerships  In this post we will look at a full list of the credit cards and store cards they offer.

Full List Of Synchrony Credit Cards

These cards can be used where ever the payment process (e.g Visa or Mastercard) are accepted. Where possible we have linked to our in depth reviews of these products.

Full List Of Synchrony Store Cards

For the purposes of this post, we consider a store card a card that doesn’t have a partnership with a payment network (e.g Visa, Mastercard, Visa, Discover, etc) and can’t be used anywhere those cards are accepted and instead can only be used at a specific store or stores. These cards can only be used at the stores they are branded for, as such they aren’t really credit cards but store cards.

Apply In Store

There are a few store cards that you must apply for in store. They are as follows:

  • Yamaha
  • Suzuki
  • Polaris
  • KTM
  • Kawasaki

Best Synchrony Cards

Most of the store cards aren’t even remotely worth considering as they just offer no interest if paid in full within 6 months on purchase of $199 or more (Blispay offers this and also gives you 2% cash back). This is usually the best case scenario as well, as often they won’t really offer anything at all.

Some of the actual credit cards are a bit more interesting, for example:

Easiest Synchrony Cards To Get

Unlike Comenity Bank the SCT (shopping cart trick) will not work for these cards, that being said the store cards will most likely be easier to get than the credit cards. If you have bad credit you might be better off either using the SCT or getting a secured card such as the Discover it secured.

Final Thoughts

I’m sure I’ve missed some store and credit cards, so feel free to contribute in the comments below. Also let me know if you think any cards should be added to the best or easiest to get lists.

Wanted to add a data point that when I was given the Walmart card and the sam’s card a few years ago in store that it was not a hard pull. Wasn’t sure what the latest data on that was or if anyone wanted to know.

    • Reader Tom also said he got the Sam’s club card without a hard pull in branch, very interesting.

    • Sarah Seagle says:

As of April 7, 2017 Walmart still does a soft pull.. I started to fill out the app but decided against it and inside of a couple weeks I was sent a prequalify invite from Walmart….

      • Joe says:

Anyone have an update on the Walmart store card? I just got a prequalified invitation in the mail today. I’ve been considering getting this card for a while but am trying to keep the number of my hard inquiries low so as not to adversely impact my chances with certain issuers that don’t like a large number of recent inquiries. Is this still a soft pull and which credit bureau does Synchrony use for Walmart cards?

        • Aja says:

Joe, Synchrony uses Transunion for Wal-Mart. I would get the card. I have two Wal-Mart credit cards. One is the Wal-Mart Mastercard and the other is the Wal-Mart store card. Many people don’t know that you can have more than one account with Wal-Mart. Once you get the card, keep your utilization below 30 percent for the first 6 – 9 months and they will upgrade the store card to a Mastercard. My Wal-Mart store card should be upgraded to a Mastercard any time now. The key to get the upgrade is to purchase every month. I did not know that I had been upgraded to the Wal-Mart Mastercard. One day I logged in to pay my bill. I decided to click on the offers tab thinking they had some type of special promotion. I immediately saw “Congratulations! You’ve been upgraded to the Wal-Mart Mastercard so if you get the store card always check the offers tab starting 6 months after you’ve had the card. I got my TJ Maxx Mastercard the same exact way. It started as a store card. They mail the Mastercards out in a batch so you don’t get it within 7 – 10 business days if they are upgrading you. It took me over a month to get my Wal-Mart Mastercard. Warning about Synchrony Bank. If you go a long time without using one of their cards they will drastically reduce your credit limit. They reduced my Belk credit card from a $5,000 limit to $1024.00 and they reduced my JC Penney and Steinmart limits for non-usage. It won’t hurt you with Synchrony. They just sent me a Paypal Mastercard and 3 other cards.

          • Lyn E says:

Just had the same thing happen with my Dick’s sporting Goods card. Haven’t used it for a year or so and they reduced the line from $3500 to $1024.00. That helped me to make the decision to close the account since I wasn’t using it anyway.

          • Steven says:

I had the same thing happen but it hurt my credit. I had the Walmart store card for 6 years, they “upgraded” me to the Walmart MC but it counts as a brand new card. So my store card was closed and I got a card that hurt my AAoA by starting over. Tried to get them to reverse it but they wouldn’t.

  3. Ric says:

Got the Amazon Prime store card 2 years go and love it, my go-to for Amazon purchases. Can’t beat unlimited 5% cashback or up to 24 months financing.

    • Bambie says:

That’s good to know, was considering a Amazon store card. Read some reviews regarding payment issues, have you had any problems submitting your payments?

      • Andee says:

No problem with my payments on my Amazon store card BUT you must make the payment at least 2-3 days before the due date for it to credit on time. The fine print tells you this up front.

        • Joe says:

Also be careful to use the right website. The link directly via Amazon has been reported to have had problems in the past, such as with crediting payments in timely fashion. I’ve used since getting my card in November and never had an issue.

  4. Rad says:

Applied for the Sam’s card and got rejected – I think because the last time I applied my score was about 200 points lower than it is now. The rejection letter lists the old score, even though I got a hit on my report suggesting that they pulled the new one. Any idea what number I should call to get reconsidered?

  5. Thanks for your help. Giant Eagle FuelPerks credit card pays 14 cents per gallon of gas for every $50 spent in the store. Also they offer many other weekly gas rewards with the Advantage Card, such 20 cents per gallon off for a $20 purchase of certain brand name items. Gift cards from many other stores can be bought a Giant Eagle with added gas rewards. Currently the gas sells for about $2.34 so it is possible to get up to 30 gallons per month completely free. The rewards carry over for a few months, however they also expire after a few months so it is wise to check online or on the receipt for expiration dates.

I like to know if my newegg (synchrony) store credit card works anywhere then just newegg site, if so can I get a listing of them please?

  10. mommbie says:

I found that with some of the above listed accounts if you apply “in store” rather than “online” you will get approved.

  11. Abey says:

Hey! Maybe add this post to this thread and make it clickable at the bottom.

    Cathay Pacific Visa

  13. Lynda Farley says:

I got the Old Navy Account and the limit $300.00. I only charged a few items and paid them off. Snchrony Bank. They closed my account on purpose & I think that’s supposed to look good on my credit report

  14. MM says:

Any recent DPs on what credit bureau they’ll pull? I know the post says TU, but ust wanting to verify/make sure my otherwise hammered EX doesn’t take any more hits.

    • Steven says:

I have 4 cards from Synchrony, Walmart, PayPal MasterCard, JC Penny and Mattress Firm. Got them over a 6 year period and they have always pulled from Experian for me. I live in Wisconsin, maybe that has something to do with it. None of my bureaus are frozen so that’s irrelevant.

      • MM says:

Thx for the info, Steven. I’ve been sidetracked with other CCs at the moment, but I definitely think I’ll be getting in on a few of these eventually. Fingers crossed it’s not Experian:) Cheers!

Hi I have been rebuilding my credit for over a year .. I am at 641 and 629 not bad considering I was at a 480 ….. Curious though I applied for a tj max card and they declined me ;( it’s hard to keep rebuilding my credit when I have to now get new credit to obviously build more … Any suggestions on maybe what store cards may approve me ?

  19. baby says:

    need to upgrade these list.

  20. Angel says:

ToysRus credit card by synchrony bank. Store and Mastercard.
    Here’s the link:

    • Cath says:

I actually work for toysrus and were told a couple of months ago that they now go through a different bank and it is now harder to get approved for the store card.

  21. Austin says:

I logged on to pay off my tj maxx store card. It said I was able to upgrade to the tj maxx Mastercard. Would it replace the store card and also the long credit history associated with that account. Would there be a hard credit pull or soft pull because it’s an upgrade?

  22. Lindsay says:

Getting a card with syncrony bank has been hell! Worst mistake ive ever made! I have a sams card and i am so annoyed and so fed up! I will be making sure everyone i can reach knows about the hell I’ve been through and stays away from this mess ive been dealing with since jan 2017!!! What a joke this company is!!

  23. willie samuels says:

hi I would like to apply for the midas car care credit card my t.x. 219 214 0142

    • Jessy says:

I would remove your number so someone doesn’t call you and try a scam saying they are Midas but really trying to get your sensitive info

  24. Adam says:

Don’t forget to add the Cathay Pacific Visa card. Also, do you want to add the new Gap Visa Signature card as well?

  25. Michael kong says:

In a weak moment I accepted invite to get banana republic visa and regretted ever since. Unresponsive error-prone. Charge late fees when acknowledged not late and several attempts to resolve unsuccessful. Then I find out this is ge capital reincarnated that was investigated for predatory lending practices I.e. Pier 1 etc. I urge consumers to stay away and merchants can get better private label card issuance elsewhere.

  26. Betty says:

EXTREMELY unhappy with synchrony! Been dealing for a year on the jcpenney acct THEY messed up and then had it happen on the lowes acct as well…. word to the wise …. be VERY careful of your bills. This company is not trustworthy and are very deceptive on their pmt methods!!!!!

    • john foster says:

I had the Lowes Card, Pennys and Walmart. I go to use Lowes it had been closef and I h as d a 0 balance and always paif it off, my o e Pennys card was closed after I kept it paid off and Walmart Crefit Limit fro. from 900.00 to 300.00. No explanation. Synchrony Bank..SUCKS😆

      • samuel e fairbanks says:

had a amazon with 700 for 2 years than they lowered to 400 leaving 14 available never late so fuckem missed it went overlimit bs will never pay off

      • Maria says:

The SAME thing happened to me. I am DISGUSTED with synchrony !! They suck!

  27. David says:

I’ve got two of their cards, Amazon and WalMart, is there a single web site to pay both cards? Really messed my head up trying to log in! It would automatically go to the account I wasn’t going to

  28. Diana says:

Can you pay all store cards at one website like my care credit and h Gregg are together but sams and belk and lowes are separate own web site

    • Bill says:

Most store cards require you to log on to each site individually. There are a few exceptions:
      One Login with Synchrony:
      Sams Personal (store/MC);
      Sams Business (store/MC);
GAP (e.g. Gap and Banana Republic on the same login)

Citi: you can link some of their cards to one login (e.g. Sears, Best Buy, Home Depot)

So far I haven’t found any Comenity cards that allow you to have a shared login for several of their cards.

  29. JEAN HEDGES says:

I have reported my Synchrony Bank Banana republic card lost or stolen twice. No new card has been issued. The person taking my calls doesn’t understand english and the customer service is horrible.

  30. wendy says:

Hello, my tjx rewards was stolen so I cancelled. i received a new card and I have no been able to activate it, I been trying to speak to a representative and the numbers do not work.
I received a call saying that I had a late payment, how can I see if my account is close, the last payment I made I pay off the account and now it says I got a balance but I am not able to log in into my online account.

I need to talk to someone soon

  31. Yamisse Milledge says:

I have had a Walmart card for 4 years when my credit score was low and I had a bankruptcy they gave me a card! Now they won’t give me a increase

  32. Michelle Mayfield says:

They will cancel your card without warning. I got a Belk card with a $300 limit in Sept 2016, used it a few times and each time paid it off in full. I used it Dec of 2016 for some Christmas items, paid it off in full, and in late January I got a letter that stated they closed my account a week after I’d paid it off in full. I was never late and never maxed it out. This really hurt my credit score because it looks like they closed it because of something I did wrong. I’ve heard of people having their account closed because they didn’t use it for six months and others because Synchrony ran their credit randomly and considered them a high risk even though their Synchrony account was perfect. My credit score was actually higher when they closed my account than when I was approved. Not a good company to deal with.

  33. Kiki says:

I need help increasing my credit score. which cards do a soft pull I already have amazon, paypal, walmart store card, care credit (i love it), and american eagle.

  34. Bill says:

Data Point – Lumber Liquidators resulted in a HP on the three major bureaus (TU, EX, EQ).

I was disappointed because after the initial denial, I placed the purchase on another credit card and haven’t made another purchase at LL since.

  35. Mary says:

This is the worst place to apply for a credit card. They do a hard check on credit and you miss 1 payment they report you to the credit bureau. Plus,
They will lower your limit. I closed the account out, with a balance left. I will pay it off and NEVER EVER AGAIN PATRONIZE A STORE THAT DEALS WITH THESE PEOPLE.

  36. Steven says:

I have found Synchrony to give ridiculous credit limits on store cards. I have $6000 on JC Penny, $6000 on Walmart store card. $7000 on PayPal regular credit card, $6000 on Mattress Firm store card. At one time I needed high limits to help my credit utilization so I kept asking every month or 2 and they always raised me. I don’t need these cards anymore but keep them for AAoA. Stopped asking for increases but was always curious how high they would go.

  37. Jeff says:

LifeLock and I was attempting to work with Synchrony Bank about Identity theft because someone open credit card using my SSN and different name. Synchrony Bank rep confirmed there was credit card opened and APPROVED then passed us to Synchrony theft / fraud department but this person was NO HELP. I’m surprised Synchrony was not interested in resolving this and preventing ID theft and loss of income on their part. Now I need to spend more time research other means. I would not bank with Synchrony until their customer service improves…

  38. aaa says:

  39. Douglas Housley says:

The worst card company. I used my amazon store card several times, paying it off in short order. Bother time I was dunned for late fees and alleged missed payments for 4 months each time. I was called 4 times a day, derogatory information placed in my credit record and seriously damaged my credit score (from 740 to 625) as a result of these extortionate crooks

  40. Debra says:

i have a care credit 5000 limit, a Amazon – 900 limit, Macys – 600 limit. All of these are with Synchrony
bank. I am shopping for a spa and the dealer told me they finance thru Synchrony. My credit score is only 650 what do you think my chances of getting financed are? I have never missed a payment and always paid more than minimum.

  41. JASON says:

Cathay Pacific Visa Card should be added as well

  42. Brad says:

Not a bank you want to deal with 27% interest on one card and 27.99 are you kidding they are licensed to steal, how this is allowed is criminal,

    • Steven says:

It’s allowed because nobody has to take a card from Synchrony, strictly your choice and millions of people in the USA have made that choice. Also to be fair yes 27% is higher than most but even the best rates on some Chase cards at 15.99 are high. Credit card interest compared to most other forms of borrowing, and that’s all this is, is incredibly high. That’s why most credt card experts will tell you the only people who should be using credit cards are people who pay them off in full every month. I use my credit cards for everything that I can buy I haven’t paid a cent of interest in years, the interest rate doesn’t affect me at all. IMO if you’re worried about the interest rate on a card you’re using credit cards wrong.

    • B Schaufler says:

Its not even just about the interest rate. They are just plain idiots to deal with.

  43. B Schaufler says:

This is the worst place to deal with next to Wells Fargo and Citibank. I have had a JC Penney CC for 10 + years. Paid if off every time the statement came. This past year was rough for me. I was late twice and they took my credit limit from $1,600.00 down to $110.00. How embarrassing. Their customer service sucks, they admit they have to read from a script from the company and it makes the customer service representatives sound completely stupid as they contradict what they are relaying to customers. Oh, they were also very proud to let me know that because I was closing my account, they “never, ever” have to re-issue me another code and can close the account at any time. What the hell is that? This bank is a joke!

    • Steven says:

Synchrony certainly isn’t at the top of customer service and I absolutely agree with you that Citibank is below them as well as Capital One, my 2 least favorite card companies to deal with but I’m sure you understand that if you are late twice in a year with payments there are going to be consequences with any credit card company. That’s just how the business works. I’m not sure your exact situation but you say you had the JC Penny credit card for over 10 years and your credit limit was only $1100. I’ve had one for less than 5 years and have never asked for a credit line increase but they just keep giving them to me and now my credit line is $7000. It seems to me the fact that you were late twice in a year and other factors that they have just decided you are too much of a credit risk. They aren’t great with customer service but I’ve never had any problem with them and I don’t see them as terrible.
