Our Verdict

Fantastic offer and it’s nationwide with $2,500 in credit card funding. I don’t see this one lasting long to be honest, we still aren’t 100% sure it’s a soft pull but I suspect it is. Most likely this will be added to our best bank account bonus page.

Big thanks to reader, Elleni who let us know. Please consider sharing bank bonuses with this site so we can make it even better.

  1. James says:

Recently picked up by Reddit for being able to fund up to 2.5k with Visa/Mastercard: https://reddit.com/r/churning/comments/5nydn2/quorum_fcu_funds_free_checking_acct_up_to_2500/

    • Thanks, great info :D.

    • arch says:

From that thread indicates Experian pull:

      Heard from Quorum support.

” We are excited to hear of your interest in Quorum and look forward to having you as our newest member! Joining us is simple, just follow the steps below to access our online application:

      Visit quorumfcu.org
Click on “Join Now” at the top of the page

An experian credit report inquiry as well a chex system report will be reviewed as part of the opening process”

  2. Craig says:

To be eligible, must join either 1) American Consumer Council (no fee), or 2) the Select Savers Club ($5 fee). You can sign up for either of these during the application process.

Quorum membership is established through the creation of a Basic Savings account with a $5 minimum balance. This account is opened automatically and funded with a $5 deposit by us when your application is approved.

You ARE given the option to fund with a Visa or MC debit or credit card up to $2500.

  3. Justin says:

Would it be a good idea to call our credit card company to “prepare” them for the charge so it doesn’t get denied? Any best practices on this? Thanks.

    • Justin says:

Yes you can do that. Also good idea to lower cash advance limit as low as it will go in case this goes through as cash advance.

  4. Slidellian says:

Wondering about something. Would I be able to meet the monthly 10 POS transaction minimum by just using their debit card to purchase items from around 25 to 50 cents? I could easily go on eBay and buy cheap Chinese goods, one at a time.

  5. Jamie says:

Citi uses mastercard right? I wonder if I can fund $2500 on my Citi AA Platinum Select Personal card?

    • chasejuggler says:

I will be attempting it on this card this evening. The rep let me lower the cash advance limit to $750 so if it works we’ll know that it codes as a purchase.

  6. Ender says:

Any DP on whether this would code as purchase or CA?

  7. Steve says:

Applied for wife and myself separately and got the message that the application has been submitted and application is being reviewed. Did this happen for just me or is this normal for everyone?

  8. Derek says:

This is almost for sure a hard Experian pull. tread light for data points.

  9. Mark says:

    @Steve
Credit Unions and small banks tend to do that.

  10. dave says:

    Applied and also waiting.
Any data points on what counts as a direct deposit? Or are people planning to keep 5K in?

  11. Mark says:

I’ll just eat the $10 monthly fee.
    I still get $260.

    • Dave says:

      Mark,
As I see it, the actions necessary to avoid the monthly fee are also necessary to get the bonus.

    • Owen says:

Lose $10? Or Gain $10/month in Amazon gift card balance, I know what I’d rather want.

    • Jan B says:

I would take the hit on the monthly fee also.

Have $15K tied up in Chase and Iberia. I treat those accounts like a CD term with a shrug of shoulders.

Not delighted by a HP but can spare one at the end of the month, I believe.

  12. Mark says:

On second look “Maintaining a monthly direct deposit(s) totaling $1,000 OR a minimum average balance of $5,000 is a requirement for getting the bonus”.

  13. JP says:

So Experian pull is certain? Any DP?

  14. Mark says:

    Thanks Dave.
    Cons:
    1. Experian credit report inquiry AND chex system report
    2. Direct deposit(s) totaling $1,000 OR a minimum average balance of $5,000
    3. No DP on Direct Deposit
    4. No DP on instant approval

    Pros:
    1. $300
    2. Generous ($2500) in CC finding

    Not the best deal IMHO.

  15. Vijay says:

this is what I got, Is it standard before approval?

    Your application has been submitted.

Thank you for applying for Quorum membership! We’re currently reviewing your application. If additional information is needed, a representative will contact you. If your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email from us within two business days. If your application is not approved, you will receive written notice within 30 days.

Thank you for your interest in Quorum membership!

  16. Mser says:

Credit pull (especially from Experian) makes this a lousy offer.

    • Eh, number of total credit pulls isn’t a huge factor with Citi, Chase & American Express all restricting bonuses. Also we only have one DP coming from a front line rep that it’s a hard pull currently.

      • TG says:

That’s not true. Citi is inquiry sensitive.

        • You misread what I wrote, I said Citi are restricting bonuses not that are not inquiry sensitive.

          • TG says:

I’m not sure how that’s related. Between Citi links with no 24 months language, Chase cards that aren’t subject to 5/24, and the many many Amex cards available, it’s still very easy to hit an inquiry wall now.

          • Not everybody has amex cards that they are still eligible for. Are you also doing things to minimize pulls in the first place (e.g multiple apps from issuers that combine and trying to freeze frequently used bureaus?) If hard pulls are an issue for you then I can understand the reluctance but looks like this account wasn’t even a hard pull and $300 + $2,500 in credit card funding is an acceptable return for me even if the checking bonus is taxed.

            Everybody is different though!

  17. Aaron says:

Application pending review and should know within 2 business days. Funded with Double Cash CC. CA set to zero and was eligible for balance transfer at 0%. Will let you know the result. Thanks!

  18. Bob says:

At the bottom of the page it has this fine print. It seems from here that the min. Balance is only needed to avoid the fees. Am I reading this wrong?

1$300 Incentive Requirement: Members with an existing checking account are not eligible for this promotion. New QChoice checking account must satisfy the following requirements: 10 or more transactions per month for the first three consecutive months or 30 transactions over the first 90-day period, after account opening. Transactions include deposits, withdrawals, check writing, POS transaction, account transfers, ACH direct deposit, and bill payment. The $300 cash bonus will be deposited into your QChoice Checking Account within 120 days after account open date if all account and bonus criteria was satisfied.

2Account Requirements: QChoice requires enrollment in eStatements and minimum monthly direct deposit(s) totaling $1,000 or minimum average daily balance of $5,000 to avoid a $10 monthly fee. Annual Percentage Yield (APY) in effect as of 01/01/17 and subject to change.

    • Mark says:

Agree Bob that it says different things about the bonus requirements as it also says: “Simply open a new QChoice Checking account and satisfy all the account requirements:

      • Enroll in eStatements
      • Maintain minimum monthly direct deposit(s) totalling $1,000 OR a minimum average daily balance of $5,000”

    • Mark says:

I think the keyword here is ” if all account and bonus criteria was satisfied.”

    • Yeah it’s not entirely clear, I put all the possible requirements to avoid any chance of missing out on the bonus.

  19. Ryan says:

Probably want to check the last 4 digits of your CC at the confirmation page, I put the correct CC in but it shows the last digit truncated. (i.e. xx01234 becomes xx0123 on the last page)

Not sure if this is a display glitch or a parameter issue with the DB, but hope this doesn’t interfere with the opening deposit.

    • Scott says:

Same here. The last 4 digits of my CC were completely different.

Did yours go through to the right card as a purchase?

  20. Onsale says:

Any advice on minimizing the damage if the credit card funding goes through as a cash advance?

  21. Jeff H says:

Based in Purchase, New York – Any guesses how long this will run? Experian shows FICO due to 15 cards with Christmas action. It could be six weeks before that gets cleaned up.

  22. Ivan X says:

Thought I’d just add to the conversation that if you’re willing to forgo the $300, you can alternatively sign up for their free checking and still fund it $2,500 from a credit card.

    • Slidellian says:

A decent consolation, if it isn’t at the expense of a hard inquiry.

    • Mark says:

Good idea Ivan X but I would rather do this deal without doing the monthly direct deposit(s) totalling $1,000 OR a minimum average daily balance of $5,000.
That way I still has a shot at getting at least $260.

      • James says:

I interpreted as having to meet all the requirements, including direct deposit of $1k or maintaining $5k for 3 months to get the bonus. Maybe the direct deposit/avg balance requirement is just for one month? Anyhow, I’m passing on this. The bonus or credit card funding isn’t worth the hassle for some credit union I’ve never heard of, but good luck to others.

  23. Bill M says:

    A few points of interest:
I can’t find the offer link from their website.
CU has been in business for 80 years.
Total # members was 78,032 as of 9/30/16
Total assets were $928 million as of 9/30/16
Capital to assets ratio is 7.03% (not bad but well below CU peer avg of 10.82%)
Over 4% of their loans were 60 or more days past due (Avg for all CUs is 0.68%)
They lost money in Q1, Q2 & Q3 of 2016 to the tune of $6.88 million

    • Tomtoo says:

      Additional point of interest:
I have had very bad customer service when trying to work with them on the management level.

  24. Logan says:

Just applied after lowering my Citi – Double Cash card CA limit to $1 via live chat.

I am signed up for credit alerts through Experian, ProtectMyID and Credit Karma. I did not receive any notification yet of any credit pull. This might not occur until they review the application though so crossing fingers…

  25. Ben says:

Online application currently unavailable….shut down already?

  26. Ben says:

NVM, spoke with CSR and he recommended just applying again b/c my SSN wasn’t in their system. Applied again and went to the normal pending page. A couple observations/notes…
    1) as mentioned previously, on the last page where it lists the summary of all info, the last 4 digits of the credit card it had listed was actually missing the last digit (so it looked like digits 12-15 instead of digits 13-16). This was only evident after the second time I submitted, so I didn’t have a chance to ask the CSR about it.
    2) CSR said that since I was a brand new applicant it was a hard pull from experian. Haven’t checked that to be true, but I’ll assume it to be true

    • Logan says:

They probably leave off the last digit for security purposes or something. Not sure what else we could do about this? I am fine if its indeed a Experian pull for $300 + $50 CC funding (double cash). Just hoping I get approved.

    • John says:

I confirm the Experian hard pull: CSR told me just now that the new membership application triggers the hard pull from Experian. And you have to become a member as part of the path to opening the checking account.

    • J says:

I noticed the card last digit missing issue as well.

  27. captainsave says:

Omg all these cc funding accounts with nice bonus but only master and visa! I need to reach the $15k on my plat amex!!

    • James says:

Go on a shopping spree at high end stores. Should be easy to hit $15k. You can also order an expensive item from costco.com with amex and then return it for cash at the warehouse since only online accepts non visa cards and they’ll refund other purchases in cash, but I personally wouldn’t do this since I value my relationship with Costco too much.

      • Craig says:

You are a few months late with that strategy…

      • anthonyjh21 says:

Or, you know, you could not do things that 99% of people think as wrong. If someone within the churning/MS community (me) thinks that’s pretty bad then its saying something….

People doing stupid things like this is what causes businesses like Costco to tighten up policies and make it harder to get things done as a consumer.

        • Josh says:

MS/churning community has morals? News to me since most are just gaming the system. I don’t see the earlier commenter’s costco suggestion as any more or less ethical versus other methods.

          • anthonyjh21 says:

The very problem is that people like you don’t see a difference in the first place and its honestly disturbing.

Capitalizing on deals such as credit card bonuses and bank bonuses are in many cases once per year or lifetime and in many cases cause conversions that actually stick (banks are still getting something back and you may keep the card).

You returning items to Costco is comparing apples and oranges and if you can’t see that then I’m sorry there’s nothing more I can add as it would just be a waste of time. But go ahead, commit fraud with premeditated returns for financial gain and justify it by comparing it to that of MS and churning.

  28. Charles Chang says:

    applied, sit tight and wait.

  29. Jason says:

Does the card you use to fund have to be in the account holders name? Sorry for the newbie question.

  30. Anthony says:

Will ACH transfer from bank account or paypal trigger the DD requirement? I’m surprised this hasn’t been asked yet.

    • Logan says:

Dont think anyone knows.. i am going to attempt 1k transfer from ally and 1k from discover monthly, hoping one of those works. This is all assuming the account gets approved. Lots of uncertainty’s. At least this is to avoid the $10 fee, the actual bonus requirements should be easy with automation.

    • dave says:

It’s not surprising that it hasn’t been asked. Because it has been asked.

  31. Ken says:

Going to be a bummer if they do a hard pull.

    • Mark says:

      Agree @ Ken
Usually for me a hard pull is about $500 worth.

      • Adam D says:

New accounts (which this will not be on credit bureaus) are far more influential in new credit card approvals than just an inquiry…How much do you value a new account then, $1000?

  32. John says:

Received a phone call and then an email ask for IDs
Unfortunately, we are unable to finish processing your membership application due to the reason(s) listed below.

    Copy of driver’s license
    Proof of current address
    Copy of current paystub

    • chasejuggler says:

I don’t get why they do that. If you’re going to need a copy of something, just ask for it in the application.

Within reason, anyway. No need to go full HSBC here 🙂

      • Ferris says:

It’s a financial institution backed by the government. They have to meet a lot of regulations and be compliant which means verifying your address and all your information and ID. They have to save their asses from frauds and audits, they’re not just trying to fuck with us lol

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Are they asking for documentation or are they flat out telling you that they aren’t going to approve you? I feel like their response is missing something at the bottom like “please submit these documents through the secure link below or fax them to us at xxx.”

  33. Mark says:

    Has anyone been approved yet?

  34. Ned Burke says:

the $300 is a Mastercard gift card, which I prefer. Dont have to pay taxes on it this way. Better than credit to your account.

    • Eric says:

Where did you see that? What makes you think you won’t receive a 1099 for that?

    • Logan says:

yeah if this is true thats pretty awful. We will still 100% receive a 1099 and now i have to either liquidate or use the funds like a debit card.

      • TCW says:

Awful is too strong. It’s still $300 for no real work. First world problems.

      • Mark says:

@ Logan Ignore the troll and Read the terms. It clearly says:

The $300 cash bonus will be deposited into your QChoice Checking Account within 120 days after account open date if all account and bonus criteria was satisfied.

  35. Ned Burker says:

Im not a troll Mark, you loser. Trying to help you out…. oh well. I guess you’re new around these parts.

  36. Aaron says:

Just got off the phone with them and they said it could take longer than 2 business days to receive approval confirmation due to the applicant volume for this promo. And my CC has not been charged, yet, for the opening deposit.

    • Ivan X says:

Same. Thanks for the report. I figured that might be the case.

    • TCW says:

That’s what I expected. For me that’s a little bit of a problem because I’m trying to fund with a brand new card, and I’m expecting Citi to squash the transaction as potentially fraudulent. I called to tell them to expect a $2500 charge, but whatever code they put into the system to make sure the transaction is approved will expire tomorrow. I’ll have to keep calling to extend it every day or every other day until the application is processed.

  37. Randy says:

I used my Citi Platinum AA MC to fund this account. Beforehand, I tried to change the cash advance to zero, but Citi stated it cannot go below $750 for this card. Since I funded the account with $2500, anyone have an idea of what might happen? Or will it fund as a purchase? (fingers crossed) Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

  38. Bob says:

Spoke to CSR. Requires $5000 daily balance or $1000 DD. If a $10 service fee is charged there will be no bonus.

    • Dan says:

Since only 2500 can be funded via CC. How is it possible to have 5k DAILY balance? There has to be a waiver for the first month…

    • Logan says:

This seems wrong. The monthly fee has nothing to do with the bonus requirements. Am i missing something?

      • Bob says:

While the monthly fee doesn’t have anything to do with the bonus requirements. You are required to maintain a 5k average or 1k monthly DD to receive the bonus. If you don’t you also will be charged a monthly fee.
I was hoping I could get away with not maintaining 5k, sign up for e-statements, do required debit transactions, pay $10 monthly fee and get the $300 bonus. Net $260. CSR confirmed this will not work.

        • Mark says:

          Great Job @Bob
You just killed the deal for everyone by telling the CSR what exactly you were planning to do!
Calling accomplished nothing. Only the written words has any meaning.

          • Bob says:

I didn’t spell it out to CSR as I did here. As discussed previously in this thread the terms strongly implied that the min. balance was a requirement. i also didn’t call to ask the question. I called about something else and asked whether the debit transactions would be enough or I needed 5k. I was told I needed 5k. I don’t think asking for requirements is the same as exposing a known loophole. If I truly killed it, sorry. BTW calling accomplished my not opening another account elsewhere because I know in need to tie down 5k. Not sure what deal I killed. The bonus is available to everyone exactly as described in the offer.

  39. nnapper says:

i tried to apply today (1/19) and the app pages looked significantly different. for example, it asked for employment association. did anyone try recently?

  40. Aaron says:

    Purchase!

  41. Darv says:

Spoke to CSR. My application was rejected. They said they’d send reasons in the mail, I didn’t ask. Can’t imagine why, other than perhaps Chex inquiries. I’ve probably opened over 20 bank accounts the past two years, don’t know.

First rejection on a bank account since Bank of the West, who also pulled Experian as part of their app review.

  42. The DJ says:

I applied last night and got a call from a CSR this afternoon. She wanted to verify my personal details (name, address, phone number, etc.). Then she asked how I had heard about Quorum, I said I heard about it from a colleague. I didn’t expect her to ask for a name, since I didn’t know anyone else, I just made up a name. She jotted it down and said my application is still pending and I will be notified in mail when/if it gets approved. The phone call was a bit strange, or maybe it was just the way the CSR was asking me questions. Anyway, I’ll report back if I get approved. I also funded it with my Fidelity Rewards Visa, so will see if it goes through as a purchase.

  43. patrick says:

My online application went to pending. I called in after a couple of days and they told me I had been denied and would get a letter with the reason. First time I’ve ever been denied a deposit account — I should only have about 6 recent Chex inquiries.

    • TCW says:

Uh oh. I’m in the same boat. I won’t bother calling. I jumped on a lot of small bank offers last year because I didn’t see any reason not to. I guess this is the risk — if you chase small offers, you’ll have too many Chex inquiries and won’t be approved when there are bigger offers like this one.

  44. Gadget says:

Tried to get credit card funding working tonight, but keeps clearing the fields after pressing “continue” button. I tried 2 Chase, and 1 Citi card; all failed w/o error mesage. Called Chase, said no block exists or fraud alerts – Had previously lowered my CA limit on all these cards and have to wonder if that is where the problem lies. But I even tried amounts below my CA limit to see what would happen – no dice. Had Chase add a note to account to expect large transaction. Then called Quorum. CSR was not aware of any issues with website, but regular business hours to have IT dept check website. If that proves useless, might apply w/o CC funding, just to get my name in the pot before the offer gets pulled.

Anyone else having issues w/ CC funding screen?

    • Gadget says:

And another thing, it seems odd it asks for account funding on the 3rd screen, BEFORE any real data input. Someone above mentions CC funding on the LAST screen. I am guessing they are screwing around with their setup?

  45. David says:

I think they might have disabled credit card funding.
I’ve typed in my CC info and input $2500 in the amount section but when I click on proceed I get a loading message and it sorts of refresh the page erasing the information I’ve entered. Anyone else with this issue?

  46. xx says:

Called a CSR before applying online. He said there is as much as a 5-DAY backlog between applying online and hearing something… Wow! I applied anyway, about 7:25 PM Central.

Cannot offer any input about CC funding because I chose to just do ACH from existing checking. The website seemed slow, but operational. Got the typical message “Your application has been submitted.
Thank you for applying for Quorum membership! We’re currently reviewing your application. If additional information is needed, a representative will contact you. If your application is approved, you will receive a confirmation email from us within two business days. If your application is not approved, you will receive written notice within 30 days.”

Question – has anyone been approved immediately for this?

    • Gadget says:

5 days… that’s nothing. Try 3 weeks for HSBC. I imagine their account approval process is not very automated, and very possible a printed application package goes from desk to desk to get approved. Just hope they don’t get tired of the backlog and shut down the promo.

      • TCW says:

Believe it or not, 3 weeks for HSBC’s offer was short. I applied to HSBC for both me and my wife. I was rejected immediately (likely too many Chex inquiries). My wife heard nothing . . . and then got a call after 3 months! I kid you not.

        • Gadget says:

WOW – 3 months? Were they still going to honor the promo at that point? My SO and I were proactive and called them weekly to request a status – both took about 3 weeks and were spaced about a month apart.

          • TCW says:

Not sure. I was so amazed by the notion of a three month wait that I told them to forget about it because we opened an account elsewhere. Kind of stupid because I probably was leaving $300 on the table, but my wife hates calling in for stuff like this, and I was annoyed so just wanted to move on to the next opportunity.

  47. Matthew says:

This doesn’t count towards the chase 5/24 rule or anything, right?

  48. Harv says:

I applied Tuesday morning Jan 17th. The first few times it timed out when I got to the second page. It worked on the fourth try. You should see how quickly I did it with practice ! I selected the option to fund it later. By the end of the day Thursday I have never received an email from them. By the way, I previously saw this CU listed on magnifymoney.com in the article “9 best 0%APR Credit Card Offers – January 2017”

    • Harv says:

update: received 2 emails from them this morning at 7 . Says I will receive free checks and a debit card in 5 to 7 days. Note that I have not yet paid them anything.

      • Larry says:

Trying to figure out the requirements for approval based on some of the comments above from those who got rejected.

Might I ask how many previous accounts you have opened in the past year.

        Thanks

  49. Todd says:

Is month calendar month or statement month? (Maintain a monthly direct deposit(s) totaling $1,000 OR a minimum average balance of $5,000)

  50. Wes says:

From the recent DP’s, it looks like CC funding from the outset via the application is not working well. Any chance you can still fund with a CC later? Or is it all or nothing at the time of initial application?

  51. captainsave says:

Didn’t receive any calls but an email asking me for verification by scanning a copy of driver license and utilities bill. That’s a good sign right?

  52. V says:

DP: Applied Tuesday and just now (Friday) got a $2500 authorization on my credit card.

Not sure how to proceed since I never received any emails about the account or my account #. Has anyone been able to access their account?

    • TCW says:

I would wait another day and then call them on Monday.

    • Aaron says:

You’ll soon get an email saying you’re approved and receiving free checks and a Debit card in 5-7 business days. That’s how it happened for me. They’ll provide their routing # in the email, but you won’t get your 14-digit acct # until the checks arrive.

  53. Aaron says:

Approved and funded w/cc as purchase!

  54. Kris says:

Trying to open a new account, but every time I select Credit Card it just keeps reloading the page. Anyone else having those problems?

  55. Rufus says:

    Denied.

“Unfortunately, we are unable to finish processing your membership application due to the reason(s) listed below.

    We need the following:

A clear copy of your social security card
A clear copy of your driver’s license
A clear copy of a recent utility bill, lease agreement or bank statement showing your name and current physical address
A clear copy of a recent paystub”

    • Lerry says:

Don’t remember them asking for that information during the application process. Did you speak with them (if so, did they provide you a way to submit the information) or was this in an e-mail that allows you to send them a copy of everything they mentioned?

    • TCW says:

That’s not a denial, right? If you send the documents in, they will finish processing your application. You might or might not get approved, but you haven’t been denied.

  56. Mark says:

    @Rufus.
I don’t don’t blame you for not wanting to do that.
It appears that these credit unions are still living in 90s.

  57. Dave says:

Wow Rufus, they only asked for copy of DL & SS from me.

  58. james says:

Did anyone tried using their bank of america merril lynch card or bank of america credit cards and if so did it come up as cash advance?

  59. Dan says:

Finally approved after sending in my DL & bill. I funded with Chase Reserve but still doesn’t show pending on my chase account. Will see if that goes through.

    • TCW says:

Congrats. When did you apply, and when did you send in your docs? I applied Tuesday night (the 17th), got the request for docs Friday afternoon and sent them in right away. I’m hoping for approval on Monday.

  60. Kris says:

How did you fund? I”m getting stuck at the funding screen, it won’t allow me to go past that.

  61. Evan says:

Just received an email this morning confirming I’ve been approved for an account. Applied on 1/17 with credit card funding and was not asked for any additional documents.

  62. James B. says:

Received the following email this morning:

“We wanted to take a moment to thank you for choosing us and welcome you as our newest member!

In a few days, you will receive your new membership packet, which will include your member (account) number and a guide to the full range of products and services we offer.”

Applied 1/18 and funded with CC using Google Chrome web browser.

    • Gadget says:

Congrats. Yeah, sometime between the 18th & 19th the CC funding stopped working – it’s not browser dependent. I think the CC churners of the Internet broke the “machine” and Quorum shut it down. Very jealous… because now I am in limbo.

Has anyone got a hold of someone knowledgeable at Quorum to see if they plan on fixing this? I tried Thursday (19th) and the CSR was not aware of any issue. He may not have been in the know, but I bet someone there is…

  63. Charles Chang says:

Damn it, received a snail mail today saying they can’t extend membership due to “risk management team does not allow”…

Am I the first one being declined? for a checking account, I just can’t believe that.

    • TCW says:

Not the first. See Darv’s post above:

      Darv says:
      January 19, 2017 at 4:47 pm
Spoke to CSR. My application was rejected. They said they’d send reasons in the mail, I didn’t ask. Can’t imagine why, other than perhaps Chex inquiries. I’ve probably opened over 20 bank accounts the past two years, don’t know.

First rejection on a bank account since Bank of the West, who also pulled Experian as part of their app review.

      • Charly Chang says:

        oh, well.
risk management team – what risk do they bear when I requested a checking account with NO overdraft protection? Given that I have credit score higher than 800, that’s just funny.

        • Gadget says:

How many recent bank accounts have you opened?

Giving away sign-up money to a customer that has multiple recent accounts is a risk to their longevity, I suppose. They aren’t a large bank like Chase, Citi, etc. The bonus is supposed to make you feel obligated to stay – kind of like when you get a gift from a person, you usually give a gift.

I would assume I am like you, many bank accounts, high credit score, but if a bank sets a policy of “X” number of inquires, then I am out of the running. Only one bank turned me down so far, and said they said the main reason I was denied was because I was out of their service area. Not sure that was true, because nobody else posted their experiences with that particular bank here.

To all, please share your experiences with these banks… and give an idea of how many accounts you have had recently, if you think that was the disqualifier. Did you call the new accounts department to get more details?

One thing I noticed is that smaller banks tend to use Chex, and large banks use EWS; most do not do both. Unlike credit reports from the big 3 (EX, EQ, TU), Chex and EWS are not mirrors of each other. That means probably only about half of your new accounts are showing when they pull their chosen report. Doc has posts on both, and I provided my input when I pulled my Chex and EWS reports to keep the info fresh. Please contribute.

          • Charles Chang says:

That could be the reason, I opened 6 checkings in the past 12 months, 4 in the past 6 months, with 2 in the past months, too difficult to pass Regions $400 and WF $250 offers 🙂

          • Gadget says:

@Charles – See, WF doesn’t use Chex, they use EWS; not sure abt Regions. But if your 6 got you booted, I am sure they will be printing my letter shortly. I have about 2 per month on my Chex since mid-last year. I am going to stay positive, and maybe it will help that I gave them a nice fat opening deposit.

  64. DW says:

Any recent DP on if this is a hard pull? I have some min spend I need to do.

    • anthonyjh21 says:

No data point here but I’m in the same boat. $300 pre-tax bonus, $2.5k CC points/rewards and the ability to take a huge chunk out of minimum spend needed was enough to get me to jump in despite the assumption of a hard pull. No extra card on my CC report, no impact to AAOA and easier bonus requirements (than CC minimum spend).

Everyone is different but another way to ask yourself is are you OK if this deal ends and/or they kill CC funding? Because I don’t expect it to last and possibly might end before data points roll in.

  65. Gadget says:

DP: Knowledge based questions at end of application asked about specific credit cards (most were N/A, one legit), but my ID/credit services did not e-mail me instantly like they normally would for a hard pull. So, think it’s a soft pull for now…

Bypassing the CC funding is depressing. RIP.

  66. Adam D says:

14 Checking accounts for $2750 +$350 (HSBC pending) in the past 12 months and this is my first denial.

Save your time boys’ and gals if you’re a churner they seem to be chex system sensitive, I called a few days after and was told I will receive the John Deer letter at months’ end.

  67. Michael says:

    CC funding is working now.

  68. Bob says:

denied. this shouldnt be promoted as much as the wells fargo “targeted” offer imo… which is clearly not targeted anyways.

  69. Jordan says:

Received a denial letter in the mail :(. Experian credit score is 735. Zero bank accounts opened in the past 6 months, but about 5 total in the beginning of 2016.

    • TCW says:

Thanks for the data point. They asked me on Friday for my DL and a utility bill, which I sent in right away, but I have the same number of bank accounts in the past 12 months that you do. Haven’t received a rejection yet but I assume it’s coming.

  70. Sparky says:

I got a letter stating, “Our underwriting criteria does not allow us to open your account.” Though I did have experian frozen until 2 days after I applied. I probably have at least 10 chexsystems accounts opened in the past 12 months.

  71. Steve says:

Applied on Saturday. Approved today. 18 bank accounts in past 12 months and this one will make 19. I was not able to get cc funding to work, however.

  72. J says:

Got the same letter as Sparky above. None of my reports are frozen.

  73. J says:

DP: called CSR today and they explained that my application was denied due to too many Chex inquiries and that an Experian hard pull was also made.

Personally I’d avoid this offer if you open lots of checking accounts

  74. /R says:

Applied and haven’t been approved yet, but my Citi AA card shows a $2,500 purchase for Quorom and not a cash advance. Coded as Services – MORTGAGE COMPANIES-FINANCIAL INSTITUTION.

  75. Quorum Sucks says:

Denied for “Our underwriting criteria does not allow us to open your account” with 3 accounts opened in the last 6 months (4 in last 12), 770 credit score. When I called, the CSR could not provide any more information.

I would avoid this since it’s a hard pull.

  76. TCW says:

I applied a week ago (Tuesday night) and am still waiting for an answer. They contacted me Friday saying they needed me to send in a copy of my DL and a utility bill. I sent them in Friday afternoon. Still haven’t heard anything one way or the other. I have 6 new bank accounts in the past year, which probably makes it unlikely I’ll be approved, but if that’s the case, why bother asking me to send documents in?

  77. Rfclub says:

    Denied

risk management review of your application does not allow us to open an account

  78. dave says:

Another data point, my account was opened and my 2500 from chase went through fine. I’m a midrange credit card churner (20/24?), but I’m pretty light on bank bonuses, probably only 1 or 2 other ones in the last year.

  79. mike says:

My barclaycard arrival plus was used for the max 2500. When I log on to barclaycard it is showing me 55,000 points earned which is 2.2%. Anyone else have this happen to them? I’m assuming since I received points it did not code as a cash advance

    • BC says:

Actually, that’s 22%. Sounds like you hit the min spend on your Barclay Arrival Plus, and earned 2 points per dollar on the 2500 as well. 50,000 from bonus, 2500(2)=5000 from purchase.

And yes, if you got points, it coded as a purchase, NOT as a CA. Congrats!

  80. DanV says:

Approved on Jan. 23 a few days after applying. About 6 bank accounts opened in the last year. Funded with $2,500 using Citi Double Cash, coded as purchase.

  81. Joshua H. says:

Applied on Saturday. Called today to follow up, got denied.

  82. Glt says:

Wife denied for the underwriting reason. Just 1 bank account for her in last couple years, 5 credit cards last 2 yrs (2 in last 12 months).

  83. Joe says:

    some dps:

applied on or before Wednesday January 18th (can’t exactly remember but i did make the following comment on the 18th: /quorum-federal-credit-union-300-checking-bonus-direct-deposit-not-required/#comment-340605)

    approved Saturday the 21st.

I was able to fund $2495 to the checking and $5 to the savings with my CFU. both posted as a purchase, getting me $37.50 (maybe I should’ve done $2494.99 and $5.01 since Chase will round up for 1.5 on pennies…)

I’m not seeing any hard pulls on Credit Karma, and I updated it today (1/25/2017).

now I have to wait for checks in the mail to get my account number to set up online access

  84. Dave says:

Applied on 16th, funds are finally pending on the credit card.

They’ve been swamped with new apps, and have added
a “give us a few days” to their phone call greeting 🙂

  85. JMarkJ says:

    ON 1/19, got this response:
Thank you for choosing Quorum; we know you have a choice of financial providers and look forward to having you as our newest member!

    • Slidellian says:

Got the same reply. Don’t know where I’ll be able to get a copy of my bank statement or utility bill, since I’ve gone completely paperless. Maybe they’ll accept a fax of my lease for this apartment, which I rented over nine years ago lol.

      • anthonyjh21 says:

I’m not following. What’s stopping you from faxing an e-statement? That’s what I did for my wife when they requested documentation. Two days later I got the $2.5k funds pending notification from my CC.

      • EBF says:

Yes, as Anthony said, download your e-statement and send it in!

  86. TCW says:

Applied Jan 17th in the evening. Got an e-mail on Friday the 20th asking me to send DL and a utility bill. I did that the same day via e-mail. Haven’t heard anything since.

    • ruthian says:

Same timing for me, received same letter, also emailed them back. I called yesterday to make sure they had received my email. The guy was very nice, told me they had, and that my application was in process, and “when I am approved” they will send out checks, etc. So I’m optimistic.

      • TCW says:

Thanks. I haven’t called, and I don’t really know what to think. I’ve opened 5 other bank accounts in the past 12 months, and from the data points above it sounds like that’s been enough to get most people shot down, but there are also DPs of people with more than that getting approved. I’ll just wait it out.

        • Eric says:

I faxed in my DL last Friday and haven’t heard anything since. What email address did you send it to as the email I received said I needed to fax the DL?

          • TCW says:

The e-mail I received gave three options — fax, snail mail or send to membership@quorumfcu.org. It sounds like they’ve removed that 3rd option, so they probably prefer faxes at this point. After hearing nothing for so long based on my e-mail, I faxed them the docs earlier today hoping that might help.

          • ruthian says:

I used the same email as TCW, and as I said, they did confirm that they received my emailed docs. I assume they did his as well. I think they’re just swamped.

    • Dave says:

Call to ask them if the fax is still sitting in the box.
My fax were there a few days w/o being processed.

  87. Mark says:

How do you enroll in e-statement? I tried looking at the website and click every single widget but no avail!!

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Funny but I noticed the same thing. I emailed them asking about this.

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Actually noted on the statements tab that it now reads “Thank you for choosing to access your statements/notices online. If you recently enrolled in Online Banking please allow 2 business days in order to view E-Statements/Notices. ”

So it looks like we need to give it a few business days, then check the statement tab again and I’m guessing we’ll have the option to enroll in e-statements. I’m sure others will run into this as well and since it’s part of the keeping the account fee-free DoC might want to update the post to allow a few days before attempting to sign up for e-statements.

  88. anthonyjh21 says:

Wife was approved after submitting documentation. Last 12 months she’s had 7 inquiries (Experian) and 5 bank accounts.

Also, it doesn’t look like Capital One is a CA (Spark Miles) The transaction is still pending but my CA limit is unchanged. It’s listed as “Other Services.”

  89. John says:

They are killing the promotion TODAY!! This notice is at the top of the website:

**Due to an overwhelming response, the QChoice checking account promotion will end at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, January 27, 2017. Applications submitted prior to this deadline are eligible. Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for more promotions in the future!**

  90. Dave says:

Approved yesterday, called today to obtain account number.
Friendly c/s rep was very helpful and courtliest.
No probs setting up online banking.

  91. Steve says:

Per a phone convo, it sounds like the bonus is a $300 prepaid mastercard, not cash. Anyone else hear the same from a rep over the phone?

  92. AD says:

Has anybody been requested to send in the additional information and then been declined? I don’t want to send them anything if I’m likely to just get declined afterwards.

    • Scott says:

anthonyjh21 above said his wife was approved after submitting documentation.

    • TCW says:

I don’t recall seeing any data points where people had to send in docs and ended up getting denied. I think if you get a request for docs, you’re going to get approved.

    • Rusty says:

You might just be a little early to find any data points. If you needed to send in documents, your application took that much longer to process. I didn’t even find out I needed documents until I called in a week after applying, no emails or anything sent. So anyone who needed documents and got denied took longer to receive the news since those who got approved seem to be getting emails, and those who were denied have to wait for a letter in the mail.

I likely have ~8 Chex inquiries in the last 24 months, and from the looks of it, I’ll probably be denied.

  93. BioCop says:

The final “offer closure” notificatio is now posted on their website. They close down the account offer according to this message: “Due to an overwhelming response, the QChoice checking account promotion will end at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, January 27, 2017. Applications submitted prior to this deadline are eligible. Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for more promotions in the future!” So there you have it, very little time left to get in on this deal.

  94. Ben says:

If anyone was having a hard time finding how to enroll in eStatements…

After being logged in go to “Accounts”->”Banking Statements” tab -> “Settings” tab -> “Notification Opt-in/Opt-out” -> “Yes” -> submit.

Also, there is a 30 day grace period for meeting the $5,000 total in order to meet the $5k monthly balance to keep it fee free. I was concerned b/c you can only load, initially, with $2.5k and I thought I’d have to put >$5k into the account to meet the requirement the first month. But I was wrong. You’ve got 30 days to get the remaining balance up to $5k.

    • Eric says:

I just saw your comment after I hit submit to TCW’s reply. Does the grace period also apply to the bonus? Did you get that in writing?

  95. TCW says:

I was finally approved this morning. Applied the evening of Tuesday the 17th, got a request to send DL and utility bill on the 20th, sent them in on the 20th, didn’t hear anything until today, but good news obviously. Opened five new bank accounts last year, probably a dozen credit cards last year and close to two dozen in the past 24 months. Funded $2500 with AAdvantage card, and it is pending but is coded as a purchase and I had set my cash advance limit to $750.

    • Eric says:

How did you find out you were approved? Do you think I should send them an email or wait a few more days? I’d rather not pressure them if I will eventually be approved.

Are you going to transfer more than $2500 right away to meet the “average daily balance” requirement? Maybe the first month is waived?

      • TCW says:

I received an e-mail this morning. It’s hard to wait, but that’s what I would do.

I do plan to transfer another $2500 in once I get the account number and routing number. Every bank I’ve dealt with waives the average daily balance requirement for the first month, so I am sure Quorum will too.

      • dan says:

if don’t hear or receive for a few days, likely get denied. earlier this week, wife & i applied on the same day; wife received an email later on the same day asking to submit some doc then got approved, while mine had no reply and learned that got denied after calling in to check status earlier today

  96. L T says:

Denied after speaking with rep today via phone. Definitely had quite a lot of Chex inquiries over the past year, so not entirely surprised, oh well, was worth a try 🙂

  97. Mark says:

    Offer DEAD.

Due to an overwhelming response, the QChoice checking account promotion will end at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday, January 27, 2017. Applications submitted prior to this deadline are eligible. Thank you for your interest and stay tuned for more promotions in the future!

  98. ronaldo says:

anybody think they will honor this is i apply after 5 pm eastern time?

  99. M says:

Received snail mail letter today :” Our underwriting criteria does not allow us to open your account”.

  100. Carla says:

It might not have made a difference for this particular deal, but why add this statement to the verdict:

Fantastic offer […] I don’t see this one lasting long to be honest.

It makes the rush even worse, and fewer (if any) will get the deal.

    • It makes readers aware that if they are interested they should sign up. I disagree that fewer will get the deal. This deal blew up on other sites that have a lot more volume than ours. My #1 priority is to readers of this site.

    • James B. says:

I agree with William. It is better for William to be honest and forthright about this offer explaining that it may end prematurely before the planned end date. This prepares readers to get moving quickly on the more important offers

  101. Gadget says:

Got my John Deere letter today too… ”Our underwriting criteria does not allow us to open your account”.
No surprise – I have at least 12 checking inquires on my chex in the last year. A little disappointed they shut this down before I got a chance to have my SO to try… she has many less than me.

  102. ruthian says:

Just had charges for the account post to my Chase card, so I guess I am in, no contact from them yet though.

  103. Ali says:

Also just had charges post to Chase account. No contact though

    • Lily says:

May i ask when you applied? I applied online a week ago but still no charges. Last Wednesday received an email asking for copies of DL and Utility bill so i mailed them the same day. Maybe i should give them a call.

    • Larry says:

Me too, Chase card shows the charges but no confirmation e-mail from them yet.

Applied on the 17th, got the e-mail request for only my driver’s license on the 24th and now the credit card charges today. Took them 7 days at each stage of the processing.

Have 12 new bank accounts open in the past year and 6 in the last 6 months. Only one new credit card during the last year.

      • Larry says:

Received the confirmation e-mail this morning and called to get the member number to setup online banking. Little over two weeks from applying to opening the account.

  104. Humberto says:

They requested copies of SS card, DL, and utility bill. I faxed the extra info. Today I received a letter declining the application. The section that stated “for the following reasons:” was blank. I called and the answer was similar to some of those that posted earlier. Our underwriting team cannot extend a membership. I pressed for more info without result.

    • Rusty says:

Would you mind sharing how many accounts/Chex inquiries you’ve had recently?

    • Bill says:

Were they at least willing to disclose which source(s), in your case at least, were used?
When an institution declines to open an account based on outside sources, in many cases they have to disclose the sources used. (e.g. FCRA)

  105. Dave says:

It took roughly ten days from app-to-opened for me.
The funding was showing at the CC website for a few
days before Quorum actually opened the account.

  106. captainsave says:

So i just need to keep $5000 and do 10 transaction for each 3 months for the bonus?

  107. cm says:

The offer is dead as of 1/27, as mentioned at the top of their page linked to.

  108. Ben says:

So I inquired about the $5,000 minimum for both the promotion and to keep it fee free. Essentially asking if it was based on ending balance in the account at the end of the month (31 day statement period I assume, but I didn’t specifically ask that) OR if it was an Average Daily Balance. The latter would require more that $5,000 to be put into the account because there is obviously a lag between account opening/funding with $2,500 and the time in which we receive the routing/account #’s and then another lag to funnel money into the account. I’ve posted what they sent me via SM below.

“The average daily balance of $5,000.00 is calculated with the ending balance each day and divided by the days in the month. As long as the average total for the month is greater than $5,000.00, you will not be assessed the maintenance fee and you will meet the qualifications for the promotion.”

I now believe it is the latter scenario and requires more than $5,000 to be put into the account as soon as possible. In my specific situation I’m going to put $10k into it for the remainder of the first month/ASAP.

Also, if it wasn’t already explicitly stated, I think this clearly spells out that the $5k is necessary to both keep it fee free AND to get the bonus. The fact that this applies to the “fee free” goes against what I was told on the phone (and what I posted earlier on Jan 27th above….sorry for the misinformation).

    • Brian says:

So, if my account was opened on the 25th of the month with $2,500, and I was not able to get any more funds into the account until the following month – I would not get the bonus. That doesn’t sound right. Most banks always have a grace period of a month for minimum balances.

  109. James B. says:

    Hi Ben,

I confirmed via telephone the same regarding the avg daily balance to qualify for the bonus. Divide the end balance each day by the number of days left in the month, (so it must add up to $5,000 or more for each calendar month). He said there is not a 30-day grace period form account opening. Of course a $1000 DD each month also qualifies for the bonus and waives the monthly account fee.

Any data points on what qualifies for DD?

At first the bank rep said the bonus is a mastercard gift card and later confirmed it a cash bonus deposited to the checking account.

I did not have to do anything online to set up estatements. It was automatically set up when I applied for the the checking account.

The 10 transactions required each month are based on calendar months.

Good luck for everyone to complete the bonus requirements!!!!!!!

  110. Ben says:

    Sorry, no DD datapoint here.

What you said about the 10 transactions is very different from what I was told on the phone. I had to order a new card b/c they lost mine due to address being wrong (long story) and I specifically brought up that I was worried about not having enough days available in my “statement” month to complete the 10 transactions. I was told that it is really 30 transactions over the first 90 days…i.e. you can make it up in month 2 if in month 1 you don’t have 10.

Also (not saying you’re wrong James, just pointing out how what they told you could literally be impossible), say someone applied on the 24th and the account was “opened” on the 26th due to their lag. It then takes 7-10 business days to get the debit card/get the routing number (in order to add more funds to the account), which puts them into February. But the account was opened on the 26th of January. Are they implying that between the 26th of January (a Thur) and the 31st of January (a Tues) that you are required to make 10 bill pay transactions (with the original $2,500 you opened the account with…which then makes it harder to keep the $5k daily balance) or 10 deposits (which I guess would have to be via a mobile app…?) Because you couldn’t hit the 10 debit card transactions in January since you won’t receive your card until February. Essentially, if it truly is based on calendar month they REALLY need to give a grace period of some sort since quite a few people were applying towards the end of the month.

The vagueness of these requirements is really starting to annoy me. Maybe Quorum got in over their head with the bonus and is now trying to make it damn near impossible to meet the requirements so they don’t have to pay out.

  111. Ben says:

So I just re-read the T&C at the bottom of the link found on this page. It confirms what I was told (over the phone) about 30 transactions in 90 days.

  112. Calvin says:

Why I still did not get any application result yet? I applied first date when this post came up at DOC.

    Thanks

  113. chasejuggler says:

“Can’t approve you because underwriting team blah blah blah.”

This was my 5th bank app within 12 months.

Quorum failed me this week, but at least now I’ve got a $350 bottle of HSBC to help me drink away my sorrows.

    • Dave says:

Can’t say for sure in your case, but I’ve opened twelve checking accounts
in 2016, so it’s unlikely that your “five” are the reason.

  114. captainsave says:

I have a feeling these rep have no clue what they’re talking about. It gotta go by card member month and not by calender month. How can i possible do the deposit and 10 transactions when i received the card and acct info on Jan 31st!?

  115. Samuel says:

Account denied because “underwriting criteria does not allow us to open your account”. I called them and they couldn’t give me any further explanation. I have a perfect credit rating and enough income. They also charged $5 to my credit card even though the account wasn’t opened. All they could tell me is they would look into it and get back to me…

    • Ken says:

How many new bank accounts have you opened in the last 6 and 12 months?

      • Samuel says:

3 new accounts in the last 6 mos and 5 total in the last 12. That could be why, but my dad was also denied for the same reason. I don’t believe he has any new bank accounts in the last year, but does have some new credit card accounts if they were looking at that credit report.

  116. C says:

So, i can do 30 transactions this week and have met the requirements?

  117. Charles Chang says:

Applied on the 17th, got an email to ask for more info on the 23rd, still nothing today, how slow can they be?

    • Dave says:

Only took nine days from app to open for me.
      Hang in there..

      • Lily says:

I applied online (for Qchoice checking) on 1/23/16 and yesterday I just received the account package in the mail but i noticed they opened a savings account only for me. Does this mean i have to open a checking account again, and would it mess up the bonus? Is yours the same procedure or you actually received the checking account in the first place? Thanks.

        • James B. says:

Send them a secure message asking if you qualify for the bonus if you open the checking account.

        • Matthew says:

Same thing happened to me – called and they said somehow checking wasn’t selected on my application, but they said they would fix and honor promo.

    • AD says:

Same boat here. I sent in the additional information on the 21st and so far I haven’t heard anything from them. I’m basically just waiting for my denial letter in the mail.

      • Eric says:

Did you send a fax? If so, it’s very likely there was some kind of issue with it (ie it was too light). Call them and ask to check if they received your fax.

        • Charles Chang says:

I actually called at the end of Jan, they said they have received everything. But it takes time to process the application.

        • AD says:

I emailed it in. Still no word from them but today the initial deposit showed up as pending on my credit card so that seems like a good sign.

  118. TCW says:

How can you tell if you’re signed up for eStatements? The explanation in the pdf is unclear.

    • James B. says:

I asked a bank rep to verify that I am enrolled for eStatements for that very reason. Send a secure message to verify.

    • Dave says:

      From your dashboard:

click Accounts on left of screen
      click Banking Statements tab
click Settings (between Home and FAQ)
      click Discontinue/Resume Accounts link

If you account is “registered” there, you’re set..

  119. ag says:

Went to open a free account 2 weeks ago as I had just missed the $300 promo but wanted to unload a min spend. 1 week after the application I got an email to verify my identity and then finally today I got an email that the account was opened. There was a soft pull and I was able to put $2,500 on my Chase Hyatt card.

  120. TD says:

Partial DP: I triggered a transfer from CapitalOne 360 to the Quorum account, of $1000, it showed up today as this:
    CAPITAL ONE N.A. TYPE:
    CAPITALONE ID: XXXXXXXXXX
    CO: CAPITAL ONE N.A.
Entry Class Code: PPD ACH Trace
    Number: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Not sure if this helps anyone to determine if this will code as DD, but the statement should in theory close on the 18th. I will report back when I know more.

    Cheers!

    • captainsave says:

My Cap360 transfer are listed under shopping? category.

      • TD says:

Yes, that was weird for me as well. When it first came in it showed up as shopping as well. I guess we will see at statement close. I thought it was going to be the 18th but guess not.

    • Ralph says:

Do you have an update on this to confirm that the Cap One 360 transfer counted as a direct deposit for purposes of avoiding the monthly fee on the last statement?

I’m keeping the $5000 daily balance to avoid the fee but would like to use that money for other opportunities if I can do a direct deposit from my Ally account.

      Thanks

  121. Eric says:

Can someone confirm that the 14 digit MICR ACCOUNT NUMBER listed under “Account Details” worked fine for ACH transfers?

Also, it will be almost halfway through the first statement by the time I can send funds to my checking account. I’m thinking of sending $5K (for a total account balance of $7500) to be safe. How much did you guys transfer in?

    • James B. says:

      Yes to both questions.

    • Ralph says:

Yes, that is your account number to use for setting up the transfer.

I transferred an additional $3300 on top of the original $2500. That will give me enough to pay some bills, make some debit purchases and still keep an average daily balance of $5000 they require to avoid the monthly fee. Of course the amount you need to transfer depends on how much you plan on paying out of the account to meet the 30 transactions.

Based on my conversation with them, what they consider a transaction to be for meeting the bonus requirement seems wide open. Besides bill pays, debit transactions, credit transactions, ACH deposits/ withdrawals and direct deposits should all count. I’m even wondering if the test deposits to setup ACH transfers will count since their coding looks pretty close to the others, hope so. Time will tell.

  122. Charles says:

does anybody know how to verify the external account added? I was not able to find anything in the account or transfer tab as suggested in the help.

    • Jame B. says:

It depends on the external account procedure for the external bank or financial institution. If these are trial deposits, it can take from 1-3 business days before they appear on Quorum.

      • Charly Chang says:

I already saw the trial deposit in my BOA account (from Quorum). But I was not able to find the boa account in my Quroum … Trying to meet the $5000 average daily balance .

        • anthonyjh21 says:

Why not just use your external account and avoid Quorum? I guess it depends on your external bank, but as long as they have a free transfer system (like Ally) then it’s easy enough to do all of the pushing and pulling from the external bank.

    • Dave says:

      Charles –

At the top-right of the screen, click Settings.
Then you’ll see a few tabs available.
      Click the Accounts tab.
You’ll see the external bank waiting to be verified.

  123. nonimmigranth1b says:

My account was opened on Jan 22.
I had a call with support person from Quorum and as per her the day account is opened you need to maintain $5000 in balance to which i said that it is unrealistic as you only allow $2500 with CC and also I did not have my account number until week after my account was opened. I am not sure if i will get the bonus or not. But I still have $7k sitting in the account. Also did 30 Amazon transactions as of today.
    DD from Bluebird of 1K+
    DD from Chase of 1k+.

    Hope to get bonus

    • Ralph says:

You’ve got the two requirements mixed up. To get the bonus you have to make 10 or more transactions per month for the first three consecutive months or 30 transactions over the first 90-day period, after account opening.

Since you’ve done 30 transactions already and Quorum considers them transactions for the bonus (Amazon), you’ll get the bonus within 120 days.

To avoid the monthly fee is where you have to maintain the $5,000 daily balance (or $1,000 direct deposit) and since you opened it on Jan 22 you probably won’t meet that requirement for January.

They do waive the fee for the 1st month (I opened mine on Jan 29 and didn’t get a fee on my January statement) and even if they charged you a fee, it would only cost you $10 for that month.

  124. jab says:

Applied on last day of promo and never heard from them ever since, not even denial letter

    • Larry says:

Give them a call, they’re pretty easy to deal with the times I’ve had to call them. At least you can find out something from them.

  125. Wayne Brady says:

I got hit twice with $2,500 CC funding. First time was at account opening and reflected in my checking account. The second time happened three weeks later. The charge posted just now. Would be nice to have free MS but the charge isn’t credited to my checking account. I’ll have to wait until Monday to call them but has this happened to anyone else?

    • James B. says:

I have not seen anything similar to this. Wait until the 2nd charge posts to your CC and then send a SMS or call.

If the 2nd charge is only pending, may disappear and not post to your CC>

      • Wayne Brady says:

The 2nd charge posted to my card last week. So they charged me $5,000 and only credited me $2,500. I called them and got no help. They said to upload a screen shot of the second charge and message them online. I did and got a response stating the 2nd charge came because of a duplicate application. Now here’s the kicker. Instead of just crediting me the amount of refunding it back to the card, they said it’s easier if I just dispute it through my credit card. WTF. That’s what I did. Makes no sense to me.

  126. Luke says:

Anyone get hit with a $10 fee in February?

  127. Ethan says:

Has anyone had their bonus post yet?

  128. dan says:

bummer, learned that my opened acct is a basic savings instead of chkg…when clicking on the direct link to apply for the intended Qchoice chkg acct, the default selection was a savings acct rather than chkg; spoke with quorum rep who said that i should have selected the edit button to change to a different acct; so no bonus, now just xfer funds out or do bil pay…oh well, careless on my part, but at least the$2.5K initial funding did help meet CC min spend

    • MarcoPolo says:

      @dan
Basic savings is always included with any CU bank account application. QFCU will pay $5 into your savings account for getting you started.
For the bonus you also had to select the QChoice checking which is quite prominently displayed on the application page.
I have learned from mistakes that it is very important to read everything on the application page. Now I even take screenshot of every page while applying.
      Hope this helps someone.

    • Matthew says:

I had the same problem, but thankfully I caught it quick enough that they fixed it, saying they will still honor the promo with me. I was literally signing up for the account within the last 10 minutes of the promo, so I completely missed selecting the right account type.

  129. Fred says:

Now that we’ve received a couple statements since account opening, anyone have a DP on what triggers a direct deposit for Quorum (besides the usual “real” direct deposit made by an employer or a federal or state government agency).

Has anyone who used an ACH transfer of $1,000 instead of the “real” direct deposit been charged a monthly fee?

    • Matthew says:

I used WF, have not seen a fee yet. but not sure if anyone has yet, still may be on a grace period to setup DD.

      • Fred says:

I know, may take one more statement (will be the fourth) to verify. Can’t imagine them giving more than a three month grace period though.

      • Fred says:

Question for you Matthew. How did the transfer from WF code in Quorum?

        • Matthew says:

WELLS FARGO TYPE: DDA TO DDA ID: INTFITROCS CO: WELLS FARGO Entry Class Code: PPD ACH Trace Number:

          • Fred says:

Basically the same coding with Chase that I used. If what Larry found out below, we’ll be good to go on the fees.

    • Larry says:

I messaged Quorum about this same issue and received the following back from them:

“There is not grace period offered before a monthly maintenance fee is charged to the account. If the guidelines cannot be met the first month, a fee will be charged to the account”.

If this CSR knows what she’s talking about, then looks like those who have done a direct deposit via ACH transfer of $1,000 and haven’t gotten a fee yet have met the requirements.

  130. captainsave says:

Today is my 90th day! Let see if i get the bonus in the next 30 days

  131. EO says:

Also got my bonus today. Opened account on 1/24. My “direct deposit” from my Goldman Sachs savings account apparently worked to trigger it.

  132. dave says:

I did not get my bonus (opened Jan 18th). I did not have my 30th transaction before my last statement, so I’m hopeful bonus will hit when next statement closes about end of month.

  133. EBF says:

Got my bonus! Like I said above, my account was opened 1/18 and my first ten transactions were in the month of February.

  134. Ben says:

Got my bonus today. Opened 1/19. Did 17 bill payments between 2/1-2/28. Completed final 13 bill payments (30 in total) by 3/14.

  135. Matthew says:

Glad to hear bonuses are coming through.

Question for you guys, what were you using for your Direct Deposit or were you keeping at least $5K in the account?

Also, were you doing bill pays from the Quorum website or just via your credit card? I assume since their definition of transactions included pretty much anything, I did it via CC.

    • EBF says:

I have $5k there. I’m going to try to downgrade my account next month and move that money. I started using them for a promo 1.65% CD a couple years ago. Then stayed for their 1% savings and unlimited external bank linking. But their savings rates kept jumping around, I moved most of my cash to Alliant. I’ll keep my Quorum accounts, but the bulk of my money is somewhere else for now.

    • Dave says:

      1) $5k balance
      2) billpays from them

  136. Harv says:

Got my $300 Q Choice Promo on 4/26.

  137. V says:

Any DP on closing the account?

  138. TD says:

I applied on 1/18 as well. No bonus yet 🙁 Did amazon reloads x10 on 2/6,3/5,4/3. Did I mess up and not do them in time?

  139. Daniel says:

    Opened on 1/20/17.

Did 11 bill pays each month with a $1000 ACH push to keep account free. Bonus posted on 4/27/17.

  140. Dave says:

Is everyone seeing the bonus at a statement cycle, or in between?

  141. wayne brady says:

To clarify, we had to do $1,000 ACH push every month for 3 months? I thought it was just once. 🙁 I guess no bonus for me.

  142. M. Smith says:

    Downgrade to QClassic:

To make the switch, complete our easy online switch form:
    1. Log in to online banking and click on “”Open New Accounts”” from the Quick Links section on the right.
    2. From there, click on “”Checking Account Services,”” then “”Checking Account Change Request.””

    Easy peasy!

    • Eric says:

How much is the minimum balance requirement for that type? Did the downgrade occur right away?

      • M. Smith says:

It may happen right away. I had to message again the next day as the account name had not changed. Was told it was done and I could change the account nickname myself. I think if you check the account details for the interest rate (is 0.00% for Classic), you should be able to tell if it has changed.

        • Eric says:

For some reason I never got notification that you replied back to me so I assumed you didn’t.

Your instructions were good except the Quick Links is actually on the left side of the screen.

Your tip about checking the interest rate was very helpful as it does indeed show 0% now (not .1% like before) so I don’t have to message them and I can transfer most of the money out. Thanks.

          • Matthew says:

I still have QChoice, yet the “Dividend Rate” shows up as 0.000 % – which is strange since I used to get a little bit of interest on this account.

          • Eric says:

Are you saying that you never downgraded and it shows 0%? Did it ever show .1%?

That’s odd as I’m 99% sure it showed .1% before I downgraded but unfortunately I didn’t do a print screen before the downgrade. In this case maybe I should SM them to confirm the downgrade before transferring the money out.

            Can anyone else chime in?

          • Matthew says:

Very odd, I was getting interest on the account, but not anymore – no idea why. Last time was 4/30 at .1

    • Harv says:

Thank you for the tip and reminder to downgrade to Q-classic checking after receiving the bonus. Eliminates the $10 monthly fee potential.

  143. charles chang says:

Anybody not get the bonus yet? My account was said opened on Feb 9th, did all the trans, plus keep at least $5k in, and $1k dd/mo.

    NO bonus yet.

    • Eric says:

My account was opened around the same time as you. Why would you expect the bonus already? It hasn’t even been the required 3 months yet.

“The $300 cash bonus will be deposited into your QChoice Checking Account within 120 days after account open date if all account and bonus criteria was satisfied.”

    • ruthian says:

Not yet. Min was opened Jan 29.

    • Frito Pendejo says:

I’m still waiting also. Opened late January, used Discover ACH as DD. Did 30 transactions in the first few days of opening.

  144. TCW says:

I set up small ACH transfers to go into and out of the account at least 10 days each month since I opened my account on January 18th. Those should qualify as “deposits and withdrawals”, shouldn’t they?

“Conduct 10 or more transactions per month for the first three consecutive months, just like you would with a regular checking account! Transactions may include, but are not limited to: Making deposits or withdrawals, using your debit card for any purchase, and paying bills.”

    • TCW says:

It worked. I got the bonus.

      • Eric says:

So you got it exactly 4 months after opening?

Did you downgrade the account? If so, what are the requirements to keep the downgraded account fee free?

        • TCW says:

Yes, I opened on Jan 18 and got the bonus on May 17. I parked $5K to keep it fee free. Not sure when I’ll close it. Might wait 2 months even though there isn’t an early closure fee.

          • M. Smith says:

There’s self service account type changing. Check further up the thread for instructions.

  145. nonimmigranth1b says:

I got my bonus a week back as well. Account opened on 01/23/2017.

  146. anthonyjh21 says:

Still waiting on my bonus which should be issued by May 25 based on an opening date of 1/25. Requirements met 4/7. Based on their 120 day requirement they should issue the bonus before my statement closes on the last day of the month. Have others had to wait for the statement to close to receive the bonus or was it mid-statement?

  147. Alex Taheri says:

Has anybody received the bonus that did all 30 transactions in the same month? I’m getting worried that I missed the ball somewhere

    • anthonyjh21 says:

I completed mine in the first 2 months and like yourself I’m still waiting. If it’s not received by the 25th then I’m going to have to follow it up.

  148. EBF says:

FWIW, I did mine 10 per month. I was nit sure if it was calendar month or every 30 days from account open so, I made sure all mine were in the first 15 days of the month. That way I covered both options (based on my account opening date). I got the bonus.

  149. C says:

Anyone do 30 in one month and get the bonus?

  150. M. Smith says:

I guess I’m confused why so many folks did 30 transactions in the first month. The post says: “Conduct 10 or more transactions per month for the first three consecutive months. Transactions included (but aren’t limited to): making deposits or withdrawals, using your debit card for any purchase and paying bills”. Ten or more per month was pretty clear to me.

    • Harry says:

Further down on the offer page it says you must satisfy the following requirements:

“10 or more transactions per month for the first three consecutive months or 30 transactions over the first 90-day period”

That would cover 30 transactions in the first month.

  151. Charles Chang says:

When you guys say you “opened” the account on 1/18 etc, do you mean you “applied”? I applied on the 17th but was told my account was not opened until 02/09.

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Opened 1/20 but funds didn’t post until 1/25 which is the date I’m going from when counting the days until the bonus should be credited. In all honesty I’ll probably wait until my statement closes at the end of the month just to be sure I’ve cleared any possible points of issuance and customer support can’t waste time telling me to wait longer. Hoping it’ll be issued right at or around the deadline but this is starting to feel a little like Citibank 2.0.

  152. Frito Pendejo says:

applied on the 17th, still waiting on bonus…

    • Frito Pendejo says:

Talked to CSR. They said their system shows I didn’t meet the reqs. I told them I see >30 transactions, they haven’t replied back yet. I hope this isn’t pinless debit issue.

Thanks for the update. Definitely not a good sign but I have a hard time believing it’s because of the pinless debit issue because I’d have to imagine others who were successful also used Amazon for example. Hopefully others can chime in here.

My guess is this has to due with the 30+ not being spread out evenly between 10+ for three consecutive months. Were yours not 10+ per month for 3 months? I completed 30+ within a month and a half so if it doesn’t post, which appears likely, I’m going to have to chase this until hopefully they make good on the offer sooner rather than later.

The more everyone shares data points on this the better.

          I’m in the same boat:
          – account funded first week of February
          – did 10 Amazon reload mid-February
          – did another 20 Amazon reloads on March 1st
          – $5k parked in the account since opening

Still no bonus. Technically they still have another couple of weeks to post my bonus though (120 days after account opening), but I agree it doesn’t look good since it seems many have received it already.

          • mk712 says:

Also note that I disabled PIN-less debit on Amazon and my reloads clearly show on my Quorum statement as “Signature Trans”.

          • Charles Chang says:

waiting as well. Applied on 1/18 but was told the account was opened on the 9th. Parked more than 5k as well as 1k dd since then. Did 10 trans each month, including transfers, purchases, etc.

            No show of bonus yet.

          • Frito Pendejo says:

I don’t remember opting out of pinless debit for this one, so either it already came up as credit (sometimes they do) or I left it as pinless debit.

Its been ~123 days since account shows initial deposit posted.

  153. Alex says:

Spoke to CSR. She said I qualified for bonus. All 30 transactions in one month. Opened 01/30, still no bonus. She said it would be posted by end of month. Crossing my fingers.

  154. Frito Pendejo says:

Update – CSR just replied after I asked them to double-check. They said I qualify and bonus will post in a couple days.

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Great! I don’t suppose they mentioned if they’d manually credit or if it is still automatically going to be sent to you?

      • Frito Pendejo says:

It sounds like it should appear as a credit on my account. If it doesn’t in a few days I’ll contact them again

  155. anthonyjh21 says:

Well, today is day 119 so they have 1 more to go. According to the SM response this morning it’ll be here by tomorrow. Not holding my breathe. Their response:

“I have confirmed you will be receiving credit for the QChoice Promotion within 120 days from the account open date, January 25, 2017. “

    • anthonyjh21 says:

Received the $300 today, on day 120. They literally waited until the last day but it’s now credited. Not sure if this was by design on their part or if my SM made any difference. Just an FYI for those here that I did all 30 transactions in the first 2 months and still received the bonus.

  156. Bob says:

Got the bonus today as well. Didn’t ask. Did 30 transactions in the 1st month.

  157. ruthian says:

Received the bonus today. Did 10 trans/month and had 5000 in account from a few days after opening onwards. Only deposits were initial funding and paypal. Account opened 1/29.

  158. Harry says:

Also received the bonus today, won’t be 120 days until 5/30. Did the 10 transactions (bill pays, debits and transfers) each month.

  159. Luke says:

Account opened 2/1, did 30 transactions in 2 months. Bonus posted today after reaching out to customer service.

  160. Eric says:

I just initiated a transfer from my downgraded Quorum checking account to my external account. It said that an error occurred. I refreshed the page to try again and saw that only my savings account was there and my checking account had disappeared.

I received an email that my checking account was “deleted”. Has this happened to anyone else? Of course they just happened to be closed tomorrow and Monday due to the holiday. I guess I will send them a SM to find out what happened.

    • Eric says:

False alarm. I just logged back into Quorum to SM them and saw that my account was back. I would recommend everyone wait at least a day to transfer the money out.

      • Matthew says:

Sounds like a maintenance thing or just a random bug. I remember once I logged into my Citi biz cc and it showed someone else’s account! I should have got a ss as it went back to normal after I clicked on a link.

  161. charles chang says:

    Got mine today as well.

  162. Jay says:

Received my bonus on 05/25, like many others.
Account opened Jan 31. Transaction requirement completed Apr 20.

Direct deposit DP: PayPal worked to waive the monthly fee (without having the $5k minimum balance).

  163. TD says:

Still have not gotten bonus, did all the transactions within the timeframe, and DD as well. Hoping it triggers when the statement hits tomorrow. Otherwise, is it worth it calling support?

    • TD says:

DP: Contacted support on 6/2, told me they would review for bonus criteria, and bonus would be credited within 3 days. Just logged in and I got the bonus!

  164. Kevin says:

I had to call, 1 day later, got he bonus.

  165. J says:

I had to call, 1 day later, got he bonus.

  166. Lily says:

Haven’t checked my account for a while so when i logged in today, it was a nice surprise to see the bonus (posted on 5/25) there. Time to close?

    • anthonyjh21 says:

I’m waiting for my $1k transfer and subsequent withdraw to $0 balance and then I’ll close the account, probably in a week or so. I like to play it safe and have at least half a month to close the account and have any fees for that statement cycle already covered.

      • Ralph says:

Was wondering if you did close your account and was there any problems? What about the basic savings account, did you close that or are you leaving that open to keep the credit union active for the future? Were you able to close via message or did you have to call?

        • TCW says:

I checked the comments hoping to find answers to these questions too. Mostly just wondering if I can close via SM or calling.

          • Ralph says:

I know, seems that once an account is closed, most people no longer check or respond back to questions to help out others. Guess we’re on our own.

I plan on closing my account once the July statement comes out and will try via SM first (was able to close a savings account I had with them earlier this year via SM so hoping that will work for the checking also).

I’ll post once I find out anything.

        • dave says:

I closed a month ago or so by calling. Was very easy.

  167. Nate says:

When and how do we close account without fees. Any minimum time period…?

    • dave says:

Call them. Don’t believe any minimum time period. Was a 2 minute call for me at most.

    • Ralph says:

I tried messaging them to close the account but they required calling in. Called and as others have said, very easy procedure to close and they will even send the free $5 they gave me to when the account was opened.

  168. Matthew says:

I forgot to do the $1k DD last month, got a $9.95 fee.

Question for anyone still looking at this thread, I got the automatic $5 for the savings account, but it has never become as available funds. Is there a magic trick to getting the $5?
