The Fine Print

  • Offer not valid if you have closed an account within 90 days
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Edge checking account is required, this has a $18 monthly fee that is waived if you do any of the following:

  • Have a minimum balance of $250
  • 4 debit card transactions
  • Receive a direct deposit of $300+

There is also an early account termination fee of $25, plus you forfeit the bonus if the account is closed within 180 days of opening.

Our Verdict

Not a bad deal considering it’s a soft pull and it’s fairly easy to keep the account fee free. Downside is you need to open in branch, but you could pair that with opening their 5% APY account (just be sure to bring lots of coins with you). We will be adding it to our list of the best checking bonuses available.

Clarification: stacks of these coupons are just sitting on the desks of all the bankers (at least at the branch I went to). It was not something I received in the mail. So you don’t need to go about acquiring a coupon. I would just go in and ask about it. Also can confirm no hard pull and no credit card funding (you can’t open it online anyway and get this bonus).

Any requirement regarding how close you have to reside from bridgeview?

    • MJG says:

That isn’t stated anywhere, but I wouldn’t really know since I am less than 10 miles from a branch anyway. I would assume if you are in Chicagoland on the whole you are fine. And seeing how low-tech this place seemed I would be surprised if they had any programmed in limitations within the state of IL. But no way to know if they’d take an out of state customer unless someone tries it.

I had actually been intrigued by their “Penny Wise” savings account — which pays 5% interest if you deposit coins. Since I have no problem being the type of person that’ll ask a bank for odd amounts of money, I could’ve easily done the 3K maximum.
So I decided to call and see if an out-of-state person could open both accounts by going into the branch. They said “No — because we are a community bank.” It can not be opened up online, either.
I had been planning on opening one during my next Chicago trip (when I’ll also be opening a Chase account)
P.S. William: This page says the monthly charge is both $8 & $18

I went to the one at 1970 N Halsted St
Chicago, IL 60614, and I couldn’t see any flyer. However, I did open a pennywise saving account with 30 pounds of coins. Five more trips to fill up that account to $3,000.

I’ll try to go to the one at Midway to see if there is any flyer for the checking account if I can

  5. Ryan says:

In the Vernon Hills branch currently opening this.

    Stacks of these flyers here.

  6. Sam says:

The branch off lakeshore drive has a stack of them but when I asked about it a different branch they also knew what I was taking about and handed me the flyer.

  7. Krish says:

Any data points for what counts as direct deposit?

  8. AN says:

You can ask for the flyer/open account at the Halsted branch.

  9. Ryan says:

Cap One 360 does NOT work.

I’m not one to try 10 different methods, so I’m gonna shut this one down.

  10. Jess says:

I just called this bank and asked about opening online –

I was told you can just open online and DD $300 and you will receive the bonus. I will DP again later to confirm

    • adam d says:

      Did you open online?

      • Jess says:

I just received this bonus but after opening online, I had to call in and ask for the bonus after 30 days. They then proceeded to want verification from my employer “Bluebird” (; I got around this but it’s likely best to actually go into a branch and sign up with the coupon.

Also note that bluebird/serve doesn’t seem to be a valid DD with them

        6/2: Opened account
        6/20: DD $300 via bluebird
7/21: received bonus after call-in, verification

  11. adam d says:

I just went into the branch off of 55th street. No flyers, banker said the promotion with the same terms is only $150. Will visit the forementioned branches with flyers to see if it’s still $175.

  12. Jerry says:

Opened in late June. Did Chase Business and Paypal transfers in June and July. I don’t know which triggered the bonus or if both did. Both on same statement.

Bonus posted today 9 October. I was thinking of closing account because I assumed I wouldn’t get the $150 credit. Glad I didn’t.
