Our Verdict

Nice bonus for $275 and no monthly fees to worry about. The bonus requirements are fairly small as well. I’ll be adding this to our best bank account bonuses page.

It seems you can only open an account online if you reside in the following counties.

IL: Adams DeWitt Madison Moultrie Shelby
Bond Greene Mason Piatt St Clair
    Brown Hancock McLean Pike Tazewell
    Calhoun Jersey Menard Randolph Washington
    Cass Logan Monroe Sangamon
    Christian Macon Montgomery Schuyler

    Clinton Macoupin Morgan Scott

    MO: Lewis Marion

The first step of the application asks for your zip code which will reject if it isn’t in those counties listed above. They state you can call or email however to open the account.

Not sure yet if I will pursue this further.

    • EO says:

I also just tried the trick of inputting a zipcode from one of those counties initially with the intention of replacing it with my real one. But the app was setup to hardcore the initial zip you entered so you can’t modify it. Oh well.

    • rubixx says:

And to add to this, if you populate the field with an eligible zip (ie 62704 for Springfield), you cannot change it later on in the application

    • TJ says:

Why not open this to the whole state of IL? They won’t get very many prospects in the corn fields and oil fields.

      • Matt says:

Because people who don’t live near one of their branches would probably just be applying to get the bonus, and wouldn’t be profitable for them. Also, they surely wouldn’t want to do business with someone who holds such condescending views about the communities they serve.

        • TJ says:

Well that is the whole idea – to get people to apply because of the bonus. Whether it is profitable or not depends on how long they retain them – near or far. Location is not much of a factor when it comes to online banking. Not being condescending, just making a demographics observation.

          • Wong says:

It seems that Matt mentioned it out of ignorance considering that oil field workers make pretty damn good money.

  3. Terry says:

Any DP yet on whether this is a hard or soft pull?

  4. MP90 says:

This is very exciting. A good bonus at a bank I’ve never heard of that I’m somehow qualified to apply for. Good stuff.
Any word on the nature of the pull yet guys? I’d probably try it if nobody else does.

  5. Jack says:

I applied online and got this message at final page:: Thank you for your application.
Your information is being reviewed by one of our local bankers who will reach out to you within the next hour.
Anyone else got the same message?? Not sure if it got approved or may get declined…

  6. John K says:

After completing the online application and supplying a method of initial funding, I was presented with the following:

     Congratulations!
You have successfully set up your account.

An email from DocuSign System will be sent to the email address provided.  Please follow the instructions in the email to complete the electronic signing of your account documents.
Once we receive your electronically signed documents and your new account funds have been verified and received, your Town and Country Bank/Peoples Prosperity Bank, a division of Town and Country Bank,  account will be opened.*
If you have questions, please contact our Solution Center at 866.770.3100 or openonline@townandcountrybank.com.

*If your documents are not received within 7 days, your account will not be opened.

I then immediately received an email titled: “Town and Country Bank : Account Application Acceptance Notification”

With the following in the body: “Thank you (name) for your application.  We have received your application and will contact you shortly.”

No option to use a debit or credit card to fund account online.

Be sure to include the promo code at the end of the application. It was not automatically populated.

    • Any idea if soft/hard pull?

      • John K says:

Just applied tonight, will continue to check big 3 and update in 7-10 days if anything pops up or if I get a copy of my pull in the mail.

They did ask me verification questions – current loan payment amt, vehicle type, etc… not sure if that means anything though.

      • JJ says:

Was rejected after applying. Letter I received had boxes to check as reason for denial for Experian, Equifax, Trans Union, and ChexSystems, with only ChexSystems box checked. So, I think they pull ChexSystems (at least for some).

      • John K says:

        Soft pull.

TU/Equifax on credit karma dated 5 days after app – no hard pull noted.

Experian on annualcreditscore.com dated 5 days after app – no hard pull noted. Soft pull on date of app noted (included under “Inquiries shared only with you” section)

Also put in my annual request for a chexsystems report. Will report back after received.

        • MP90 says:

You are the embodiment of “Be the DP you want to see” sir. Thanks for your contributions.

          • John K says:

Thanks, happy to share what I can!

Chexsystems is a positive – I received my report and I see a data point from this bank on there. It was under Peoples Prosperity or whatever their corporate name is.

      • John K says:

TL;DR: Soft pull, but pulls Chexsystems. 🙂

    • John K says:

The next day I received an email to electronically sign the documents they discussed above. it was a painless process through some site/system called DocuSign.

      • John K says:

Oh and I forgot to say – at that point I gained access to an account number, so I think everything is open at this point, although I’ll hold off til I receive a welcome packet to try to set up DD/online banking. They also give 20 free checks.

  7. Terry says:

I clicked on direct offer link and the page that it took me to looked like it was only available at Edwardsville and Fairview Heights. I emailed the bank inquiring about the GET275 promo code and I received a response that it was only available in the Edwardsville and Fairview Heights markets.

    • John K says:

I’ll let you know how it goes since I don’t have an Edwardsville or Fairview Heights market Zip and I am in their area. Just my opinion, but the fine print of the offer itself isn’t clear that this is only for those markets. In fact, when I go to that webpage, it seems to me that the Edwardsville and Fairview Heights deal is for the special savings rate.
