The Fine Print

  • The primary signer must be a new consumer checking client opening a new High Interest Checking account with new money not currently held by IBERIABANK
  • $300 bonus will be credited to the new checking account within 105 days of meeting the requirements.
  • New account must have a positive balance up to and including the 90th day
  • Limit one $300 bonus per household
  • If your new money market account is closed within the first six months, the earned bonus will be deducted at account closing
  • Bonus will be deposited into the new High Interest Money Market account within the first 105 days of account opening if all requirements are met
  • Limit of one $100 bonus per household in a 12-month period, and primary signer must be a new client to IBERIABANK
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Early Account Termination Fee

Money market needs to be kept open for six months to avoid any fees as far as I can see there is no minimum requirement for the checking account.

High Interest Checking $20 Monthly Fee

The $20 monthly fee on this account is waived if you do any of the following:

  • Maintain an average monthly balance of $5,000 or more
  • Or, combined monthly average collected balance of $25,000 in any personal deposit account;
  • Or, an outstanding principal balance of $25,000 in any personal loan accounts;
  • Or, you are a small business owner and have an IBERIABANK small business checking account*

High Interest Money Market $20 Monthly Fee

The $20 monthly fee on this account is waived if you do any of the following:

  • Maintain an average daily balance of $5,000 or more

Statement Savings account $3 Monthly Fee

This account is needed if you’re targeted for the $50 savings bonus. To avoid the $3 monthly fee you need a minimum balance of at least $200.

Business Checking No Monthly Fee + Waives Personal Monthly Fee

They also offer a free business checking account, this waives the monthly fee on the personal account as well.

Our Verdict

Let’s tackle the $100 savings bonus first. You need to keep $5,000 invested for six months to keep the account fee free and to get the bonus. This account earns 0.05% APY, you should be able to easily beat that by at least ~1% APY. Meaning you’re basically losing out on $25 in interest. If you’re getting 5% APY then you’re losing more like $125, since the bonus is only $100 this is a pass for me.

Now let’s look at the checking account, you’ll need to keep the account open for at least six months and the easiest way to keep it fee free is with a $5,000 balance (APY is also only 0.05%), meaning you’d be losing out on ~$25 in interest. Given that the bonus is for $300 and there is no direct deposit requirement this is well worth doing if there is no hard pull. Alternatively you could open a business checking account to keep the personal account fee free. The $50 savings bonus is also probably worth doing if you’re targeted as you just need to park $200 in funds there to receive the bonus.

If anybody does this bonus, please share your experiences in the comments.

Just completed the checking account online. Account cannot be funded with credit card. Must use ACH pull from another checking or savings account.

  2. Javier says:

“You work hard for our money” = amusing typo?

  3. Fiby says:

I’m going to give this a try, but I’ll open a small business checking account to avoid the fees b/c I’ve been meaning to open one anyway, and they have a free one.

This small scale reselling business of mine is handy. Not that much profit but it lets me get business cc’s and business bank accounts for bonuses!

Thanks for the tidbit brteacher. Disappointing but I can’t complain.

  4. Adam says:

interesting, its tempting cause finally another TX bank bonus but really dont wanna park $5k in here for a few months.

so the other option it looks like in the fine print is to first get a small business owner checking acct. there are some fee-free options (wish these had bonuses too) … but not sure which one counts or it doesnt matter as long as its one of the SBO checking accts.

then based on that, you can open a high interest checking acct for the $300 bonus. wonder if there is a waiting period or if it can be done instantly?

  5. AE says:

Excellent Find William – Your website is by far the most detailed of it’s ilk – Really like the ‘review’ portion of your posts and math percentages etc…

Is there anything that we can click for you etc..or links to visit to say thank you?

  6. Marc says:

Sounds like they got inundated with applications last night after you guys posted this. Anyone who applied should expect to get a call from them to verify that you actually applied–they appear to be concerned that there’s some sort of botnet or something trying to steal people’s identities.

Good work on mobilizing so many people at once that a smaller bank gets alarmed, guys!

As a reminder, never give out personally identifying info to someone claiming to be a bank rep on an inbound call. Tell them you’ll call back.

  7. Trey says:

I just opened an account in branch and it was a soft pull

It`s says there that non US citizen must apply in branch. Is this actually verified ? I have green card but hate these stupid conditions ..

    thanks

  10. Jose says:

    William

Correct me I am wrong, but a return of $300 on a deposit of $5000
is a return of approximately 12% for a six month deposit. If I
am correct, you can not beat a deal like this. I figure 5000@10%=$500 for
    1year. 500/12=$41.66 interest per month. $41.66 X6=$250. But you
are getting $300 and not $250.00. If anyone come up with a different return
    please post.

    • John Adams says:

you are correct. remember to take some off for taxes.

    • Wyle says:

You’re right, but there’s no guessing if you do the math in the reverse order.
$300 bonus for 6 mo = $50/mo, which is 1% of $5000. 1% a month is 12% APY. Definitely a sweet deal. Time to contact my cousin in FL.

      • Wyle says:

Darn. My cousin already banks with Iberia. 🙁

      • Jose says:

        Wyle

        Doesn’t a $100 bonus
Works out to a 4% APR
        For six months. William
Is using a 5%APR in this
Example. If anyone knows a Bank that is giving a 5%APR on a $5000 deposit for 12 months please let me know.

    • Wyle says:

That being said, as mentioned in this post and on the bank site, the checking bonus posts within 105 days. The bank wording is vague and I’m not convinced whether its 105 days after opening or after the 15 debit charges (not a big difference assuming one does the 15 swipes ASAP). No mention of a 6 month minimum account age.
Even higher APY for a 4 month timeframe. And higher yet if you delay the $5k funding because fees are usually waived the first month. 🙂

      • Jose says:

        Wyle

Thanks for confirming my comments on this offer, which should help those people who were not aware of the correct APY being paid on this account. I like your idea of the delaying the 5k funding. I will be opening my account next week, and will post any further info on this offer.

  11. Matthew says:

“If your new checking account is closed within the first six months, the earned bonus will be deducted at account closing.”

Also states you need to keep the checking open for six months, you state atleast 4 months.

  12. JT says:

I live in El Paso, which is too far away for me to ever go to a branch, but still in Texas. Can I still get this?

    • Don’t think you need to go in branch, so should be fine.

      • JT says:

        Thanks for the info

      • payyoutuesday says:

A friend who lives in Austin applied for this account and was denied, because he does not live in their service area. If you check “Locations & Hours” on their website for El Paso, the response is “The search you have submitted is not currently part of the IBERIABANK service area.” For these reasons, I suspect JT will also be denied.

You may never have to go into a branch to get the account, but you may have to live in the service area of a branch.

  13. tbradnc says:

    I’m going for this one…

I’m going to ACH $5015 and since you get a free box of checks I’m going to write fifteen $1 checks to trigger the bonus requirement. This is to avoid any confusion about the definition of “use your debit card”…

After the 15 checks I’ll have a balance of $5k so no service charges and will consider it a 12% six month CD.

  14. dan says:

while the term states only 1 bonus / household, any of u folks in the past did get more than 1 bonus from a spouse or family member with the same address?

  15. Vijay says:

Today I opened both Business Checking and High Interest Personal Checking a/c’s and both the accounts are free since personal is attached to business and business a/c comes as free by itself (no need to maintain any balance in both the a/c’s). It’s a soft pull from Chex Systems/Experian.

William, for your question on where the $50 Savings account bonus pops up….it pops up after logout from your online banking.

I would suggest our folks to make use of this easy bonus before they bring it down. Good Luck!

    • dan says:

does the free biz checking acct. require a minimum funding / deposit? TIA

      • Vijay says:

I believe you’ve open the account with $100 opening deposit, which you can take back after a day and there’s no minimum balance or direct deposit req.

        Good Luck!

  16. korrinda says:

How to open money market with $5000 balance? They seem to allow only $500 initial deposit.

    • Just transfer in additional funds after it’s opened? Give them a call if worried.

      • korrinda says:

But they say DAILY balance of $5000 is required for bonus. So the first day will not have this balance…

        • Give them a call and see what they say.

        • Mike says:

That is incorrect. $5000 is required to keep the account fee free.. Only requirement for bonus is to make 15 transactions.

        • jose says:

just fund the additional amount after they open the account for you or
go to a branch for the additional funding(which is what I did). To access the account on line, you will be provided with a user name
and the password is the last four digit of you social. The Branch will
be able to provide you with the user name much quicker than online.

      • jose says:

        William

I disagree with your comment concerning the money market bonus of $100
for a deposit of $5000.00 for six months. For six months which is the requirement for keeping this account the APY works out to 4%. Banks
are not giving out even 1% APY on a deposit of $5000. Close the account
after 6 or 7 months to get your money back of 5100, plus any additional interest and you have earned an APY of at least 4% on your $5000.
I did take advantage of the $300 bonus. Open the account on line and did
the additional funding in a Branch.

      • jose says:

Opened this account. Once they open account with initial deposit, you
wil be able to fund the additional $4500.00.

  17. Matthew says:

Do you think the checking(300) and saving(50) bonus is stackable as the terms would probably state otherwise:

“Offer is available only to clients who have not received any cash or cash equivalent bonus from IBERIABANK in the past 12 months”

    Any advice?

    • Vijay says:

Today I went back to open $50 bonus savings a/c and the rep. said that term is for any savings account bonus in the past 12 mos. I got confirmation that, We’ll get $300 for personal checking and $50 for Statement Savings account for sure. Good Luck!

      • Matthew says:

        Thanks for the update Vijay

        • Matthew says:

          Vijay,

Did you receive the $50 savings bonus?

          • jo says:

I opened up savings on 2/22/16, still no $50 bonus as of today.

online messaging the bank, was told to go to the bank where I opened the account. On 6/20, I emailed the lady who opened the account for me, she said she would looking into this, but I still heard nothing back.

            Shaky….

  18. John says:

This is a great site. I have already opened a Capital One and Chase savings and Checking. Iberiabank just denied me a checking account that I applied for online. I know my FICO is over 800. Have I tried too many offers. The capital One was November, and the Chase this month.

  19. John says:

I called and found out what happened. If your address is further than 60 miles from a branch, they reject the online application. They will allow you to open one at a branch, however.

  20. Matthew says:

Anyone figure out their Bill Pay? It wants to do a check payments to bill pay a credit card.

I guess I could probably just purchase 15 $0.50 amazon gift card purchases.

  21. Gina says:

If I try to apply but I’m 70 miles from the bank will it still do a checksys pull? I don’t want to use a pull but I’m so close and it’s such a big bonus I’m inclined to try. I have opened 4 accounts in the last 2 months (just started this game).

  22. payyoutuesday says:

This bank is making me wish I lived more than 60 miles from a branch. Their communication is terrible. From the time of my application, it took more than 2 weeks to get the online banking username and password (only after I finally called). Debit card also > 2 weeks. You cannot ACH transfer money into the account in the first 30 days. You cannot remotely deposit a check during the first 30 days. Guess I’ll be visiting a branch. Even when I am interested in a bonus, I generally give banks a chance to earn my business. I think I have already made my decision on this one.

    • payyoutuesday says:

Should have said you cannot pull ACH money into the account in the first 30 days. I did not try pushing it — that might have worked.

  23. Jose says:

Call a branch they will give you a username.

  24. Jacob says:

Is the 60 mile radius hard coded in the system?

Has anyone been successful in opening online who lived more than 60 miles away?

  25. David says:

FYI, got a flyer at branch when I made the 5K deposit that shows high interest checking rate of 1%

  26. AE says:

Horrific bank… test deposits for (ACH from two other banks are not showing up no matter what I do on iberia’s side – cannot deposit in the $5,000 necessary to avoid the fees.

Their mobile banking app claims to be able to mobile check deposit – yet it offers no such capability (apparently they have to add that feature on later down the line) …. so it’s into the closest bank in person and hope that they waive the service fee due to their own incompetence…

    • John says:

Yes, they are kinda aggravating at first. I opened my account in branch and deposited a check for $5000. They put a 2 week hold on the money from the check even though it cleared my Chase account the next day. There fine print says mobile deposit will not be available until the account is open for 30 days. ACH might be the same way, but I am not sure.
They definitely are the the worst bank I have dealt with so far.
That is my rant for today. Now for the rave –the DoctorOfCredit site Rocks!! I just discovered it last November and have opened 4 accounts for bonuses. I look forward to updates to see which bonus I will try next. Thank you William Charles for this site!!

  27. Anita says:

I opened a checking account in the branch today. Fast and easy. The CSR stated that you there is a 9 day hold on your money for the first 30 days. That’s the first bank I’ve encountered this. Meaning, you can’t start doing your 15 transactions for 9 days. As to a $50 bonus offer for a savings account popping up after you logout of your online session, no such offer pops up for me. Instead, the screen talks about a brand new website. Has anyone recently gotten the savings offer to pop up?

  28. Matthew says:

I’ve made 15 amazon gift card purchases and made 17 bill pays. Still have not received the bonus but I will keep you guys posted. They also offered $5 for signing up for e-statements.

I also utilized the $50 for the saving account and have put $200 into their savings account.

    Wait and see what happens.

  29. AE says:

This bank is adverse to replying to any emails or messages – going on two weeks without any reply to messages (promises 24 hour response time)… Absolutely awful.

No bonus here for either savings or checking – going on 2 months.

The did offer me $5 signing up for e-statements.

    • John says:

My email questions were not answered either. If you go online during regular business hours, you can get answers with their online chat though. I am not sure if they wait the full 90 days before the bonus gets processed or not. Has anyone received their bonus yet?

  30. BH says:

*** Biz Free Checking === promo Bonus == $300 (yes, separate from $300 for Personal new acct)

    — use promo code: BIZ300

Call them 9am-6pm (888) 777-7145; the above promo Code, was GIVEN to me, by their Rep; it apparently isn’t well known, nor promoted. No Google results for it.

Not sure, when this separate $300 Biz Checking Bonus expires.

  31. Jan B says:

I opened the “High Interest Checking” yesterday. At 0.05 dividend, the reference is unfunny, but I digress. Since I invested the same with Altra for a year, it was a bit of wrangling to put the new $ in with Iberia.

Excellent service provider. Kept sharing stuff with me as if we were good friends, like, if I get in a “bind” with the $, let her know. I tested another teller since I cherish good teller services; she passed with A+.

Will see as time goes on. Have to perform FIFTEEN assorted transactions as soon as I receive my ATM card and I will do quickly as I can because it seems the bonus kicks in after they are completed and not within a stipulated time.

I believe they use the CHEX system and unlike BMO and TDB, I didn’t go for any lines of credit in addition to have the unwanted hard pull.

    • Jose says:

the bonus of $300 kicks in 90 days after funding the account, and completing the necessary transaction.

    • Jan B says:

Followup: I have not received my bonus and it’s been 2 months and 8 days so since I have received two statements, I can’t concur with those who referred to 2 months “billing”, then bonus.

I did call today as I need an unexpected withdrawal bringing me under $5K, and the rep who checked the bonus status said I had to wait the 105 days. I did read to her the bonus fine print but she said still that just the way the bank actually does it, ie, wait the full 105 days.

Compare this with 5/3 Bank which I opened in early May and first DD posted 01June. Got my $200 bonus into my account 07 June, Thank you 5/3! 🙂

  32. Nate D says:

Anyone receive their bonus yet from this bank?

    • John says:

Not yet, it has been two months and a couple days. Maybe they are waiting for the full 105 days. I have made a whopping 52 cents interest on my $5000 with their “high interest” account.

  33. Matthew says:

I just received my $300.00 bonus to the account after my second billing cycle.

    NEW ACCOUNT INCENTIVE $300.00.

As stated I did 15+ Amazon gift card purchases(not sure if this worked) and 15+ Bill pays.

  34. Marc says:

Just got my bonus as well–right around my second statement. I can confirm amazon gift cards work–I did 16 (lost count) $.50 gift card purchases over two days.

They did, however, screw me on preventing me from funding the account up to the $5k, so I got hit with one month’s account maintenance fee. Let’s just say that Iberia will not be retaining my business past the ETF date.

  35. Nate says:

Anyone closed the account after the bonus and retain the bonus, or do we have to wait 6 months from account opening?

    • Marc says:

Fine print says they will deduct the bonus from your account balance at closing if it’s been fewer than 6 months. Not going to chance it.

      • John says:

I still have not received my bonus after 2 months. I asked about it today on online bank chat, and was told account had to be open with a positive balance after 115 days.

  36. dan says:

has anyone yet received the $50 bonus for opening a savings acct?

  37. Quan says:

Got my $300 bonus today 5/18.. Took 100 days from opening account on 2/9. Completed requirement on 2/26.

  38. AE says:

opened 2/16 – bonus for checking posted 5/18 in full.

waiting on savings $50 bonus still – opened 2/26

  39. dan says:

has anyone rcvd the $50 bonus for the savings acct? mine was open on 2/16, more than 3 mo. plan to contact them soon

  40. jose says:

Funded the account on 2/11/16, Received $300 bonus on 5/11/16.
Did not call. Have not received saving bonus, will call on that.

  41. dan says:

does anyone here happen to have a screen shot of the $50 bonus for the saving acct? my local banker is kinda slow to respond or iffy about this. i know that i did see a pop-up or the bonus offer when applying but forgot to save. TIA

  42. AE says:

Yes, The wording is above in the comments and I have a screenshot – but no way to get it to you.

    • dan says:

plz forward a screenshot to dttmhouston@yahoo.com. think i need it. TIA!

      • jose says:

Spoke to a rep of the Bank, as I had the same question concerning the $50. The rep said that
you can not combine the Get50 offer with the
        Get 300

        • payyoutuesday says:

Upon further review, I think the bank rep is correct that you cannot get both the Get300 bonus and the Get50 bonus. The Get50 bonus says, “Offer is available only to clients who have not received any cash or cash equivalent bonus from IBERIABANK in the past 12 months.” Since I just received my $300 bonus, this means I am not eligible for the $50 bonus.

I opened the savings account in hopes of the $50 bonus, but somehow I missed this caveat. Live and learn.

          • Robert says:

Absolutely untrue – they are playing us for fools. Can file with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau – upload all screenshots.

“Offer is available only to clients who have not received any cash or cash equivalent bonus from IBERIABANK in the past 12 months.”

Point of order: When I applied for the savings account (which was targeted to me by the way – immediately after I opened up the checking account with the promotional code and had not received any bonus) – I had not received or met any promotion requirements from the bank. Therefore, I met the requirements stated – your fine print does not say that any in progress promotions are null and void if underway at the same time etc… I did not “received any cash or cash equivalent bonus from IBERIABANK in the past 12 months”
Your wording clearly indicates prior bonus receipt BEFORE this new account opening – it does not indicate future (as in post account opening or future)
Your word choice and past/present/future tense wording is in error if you meant it to instead read: “received any cash or cash equivalent bonus from IBERIABANK in the past 12 months OR IN THE FUTURE”

It was and is a less than clear way of communicating your desired intent. At no point in time did I presume that you would exclude the promotion that I was directly offered (savings GET50 promo) because of a potential future bonus not yet received at my time of savings account opening.

Unless that wording was specifically crafted to increase breakage to reduce payouts – that time-frame wording as it read was/is poorly worded and should be adapted for clarity in your bank’s future promotions.

called the banker whom i confirmed the $50 bonus 3 mo ago said that a screenshot would help. Anyone has a screenshot, plz email me.

yeah, if the bonus is properly set up, don’t think that we need to send additional doc or proof, but just do what was suggested & see that they may honor

I had not received any other bonus when I applied for the savings GET 50 promo code… not my fault that they sent me the Get300 bonus first. This bank has been a pain from day one – I’ll make them work to weasel their way out of their offer.

The local banker replied to my inquiry for the $50 bonus as this:

‘Please find attached which explains why have you not received your $ 50.00 bonus for the savings account. It says you cannot received it if you have Cash or Bonus received in past 12 months’

feel that I didn’t receive any bonus other than the checking acct that must be open first before getting targeted for the savings bonus, right? How do we challenge this?

  44. AE says:

Go straight to corporate and also twitter and have your facts ready – they encouraged checking account holders to apply for it and you had not earned a bonus when you signed up for savings (if that is true).

  45. AE says:

Hmmm – was told to call a promotions bank online number to confirm bonus etc.. and the gal looked me up and said that it was coming this week (has been over 105 days since all reqs were met) – so we shall see if they are telling truths or not by the end of the week.

    • dan says:

what # did u call, AE? plz post the outcome. i almost forgot about this; need to get back to it

      • AE says:

I was told that a Beth _____? Was actually the only one who knew what was going on with promotions and had the answers and they she would be contacted about my account.

The normal bank direct contact folks have no power and have no idea.

Bonus was not credited within 105 days and not by today as was preciously stated by the last rep in bank direct that I spoke with..

Please contact a branch or the direct bank department (if the account was opened online) at 888-777-7145

I do not see that the bonus has been placed in your account, as of yet. To discuss this further and check on the status of it, please contact our Direct Bank department, as they are the department that the account was opened through. Their number is 888-777-7145.

However – no one there understands why it has not credited – so it needs to go up the ladder.

wish that DOC still made all the replies & new posts auto pushed to us subscribers, whereby it would have been much easier & quicker to be communicative & informative

  47. dan says:

has anyone got the $50 bonus for the savings yet? if yes, by what methods of communication? mine’s still being reviewed & has taken a while despite follow-ups

  48. Matthew says:

    I guess the $50 savings bonus is a no-go?

  49. Ben says:

Just received a 1099-misc form instead of 1099- int for the $300 bonus last year. Is that normal for bank bonuses?? Why would I owe self employment tax on a bank bonus?

  50. NN says:

    new offer

    this one requires direct deposit
