The Fine Print

  • Members with an existing account do not qualify
  • Limit of one redemption per person
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

Both accounts are fee free, if you’re account is inactive for 90 days and your balance is under $100 then you’ll be charged a $5 fee. If your account is inactive for 36 months you’ll also per charged a $5 fee per month. There is no early account termination fee according to the fee schedule.

Our Verdict

Unfortunately it’s a hard pull and no credit card funding, so not really worth considering if you ask me. Better off to go with a credit card with earns a higher cash bonus.  If anybody has any experience with this bank, please share your datapoints in comments below. We might add this to our list of the best bank account bonuses depending on what we find out.

  1. bob says:

just did it. no CC funding – ACH transfer from another institution, transfer from another account, or mail a check

  2. Dan says:

Opened an account there last year. It was hard hard pull on TU and if memory serves me correctly a limit of $100 credit card funding.

  3. doug says:

^bummer, but that was a year ago. maybe it’s a soft pull now? anyone can report? definitely worth a soft, but not hard pull.

  4. Tom says:

I opened an HSA and savings account with them last month and it was a hard pull.

  5. John says:

I opened this account October 2015 when the bonus was only $80. It is definitely a TU Hard Pull. I do not think you can fund with a CC. The bonus plus $455/year interest make the deal worth it for me. I use AMEX Bluebird loads to complete the 15 card transactions.

  6. Mike says:

This actually has been my primary bank account since my old employee credit union was acquired by Connexus and I’ve had good experiences with the employees, both locally and online.

  7. bob says:

just got the bonus (finally) after ACH’ing $1000 once per month from another bank.

Finally set up DD thru my work, since it took a solid 2 months to get the bonus. Figured maybe ACH didn’t work. But got the bonus before my first work DD was made.

  8. MarcoPolo says:

    Agree with William.
Not worth it with a hard pull and no CC funding.

  9. JASON says:

About $36 interest payout per month for parking 25K. No credit card funding and hard pull kill the deal for me.

  10. arch says:

Not to nitpick, but your fine print says bonus will post to account when actually it is an e-mailed Best Buy gift card

  11. Bob says:

Damn, definitely not worth the HP for $100 at Best Buy only…M&T it is! 😀

  12. sam says:

I do not see a minimum opening deposit anywhere on the advertisement for this bonus.

  13. MoreSun says:

I saw no minimum opening deposit anywhere on the ad either. Did the online app with ACH funding totaling 650 between checking and savings and received notice they will contact me in 1 to 2 business days to discuss my application.

  14. Darv says:

These folks rock. Introduced through $100 cash offer last year. Hard pull on TU. Their website is very good, not there with Capital One 360 or Ally, but very good. Their deposit rates are excellent. Their customer service is excellent. We might need a loan for home improvements next year and their rates on those are also excellent. I will be keeping my Connexus account. If you want a credit union relationship, consider these folks as a long-term option.

  15. MoreSun says:

Should definitely update how much to open the account with. I submitted for 650 combined between checking and savings. My accounts opened but only the $5 fee was pulled. I SM them about the initial $650 I had authorized in the app and they said “Unfortunately, we were not able to deposit your original request because the maximum you can deposit into your checking and savings account during the application process is $100”.

  16. MoreSun says:

Opened mid April with $0 Innovative checking, $5 fee. Pushed 200 from Ally a few days ago. Yesterday with “taxable amount for best buy gift card” as the description $100 posted to my account and was immediately debited back by the bank. My $100 Best Buy e-gift card arrived via email this morning and I already cashed out for the other gift card I wanted at my local Best Buy. I’m not closing the accounts quite yet as I’m interested in their HSA account.

Bottom line: don’t need $1,000 in the account, Ally qualified as DD, gift card was emailed 2 days after the Ally push (and yes, it was a hard pull on TU for me as well)

What day did your direct deposit go through? I had a real one last Friday and haven’t gotten the gift card yet.
