The Fine Print

  • To qualify for the $100 bonus, open your very first 360 Money Market account online by 12/15/2016 11:59 p.m., E.T. and deposit at least $10,000 no later than 12/31/2016 11:59 p.m., E.T. (If you currently have or have had a Savings product with Capital One Bank, Capital One 360 or ING DIRECT before or are a Capital One Associate, you won’t be eligible for the bonus.) In order to qualify for the bonus, you must make a deposit from an external account. Transfers between any Capital One accounts will not qualify. This offer cannot be combined with any other Capital One Bank or Capital One 360 new account opening offer, and is strictly non-transferable. Bonus offer is not valid for multiple accounts and is only available one per account.
  • If you qualify for a bonus, Capital One will deposit the bonus money into your account in approximately 6-8 weeks after completing the above conditions. Once it’s deposited, the funds will be available immediately. Account must be in good standing (not in default, closed, or suspended, or otherwise not in good standing).

Avoiding Fees

This account has no monthly fees or minimums to worry about.

Our Verdict

Doesn’t look like there is any minimum amount of time that the deposit needs to stay in the account for, but that shouldn’t matter that much given that the account offers a 1% APY as well (unless you’re doing rewards checking). If you’ve ever had a Capital One 360 or ING DIRECT savings account you’re also excluded from this offer.

All in all this seems like a good offer to me (better than their previous savings bonuses), because of that we will be adding it to our list of the best savings account offers.

I have an existing checking account with 360, tried to open a saving account for the very first time but didn’t see anywhere that allows me to add the promo code Merry100, then account just open. I doubt I would be getting the bonus so I’ll call their CS to find out if I’m eligible or not.

    • Charles says:

I have the same situation, please let me know if they’ll honor the bonus. I haven’t opened my Money Market account yet, but have a 360 Checking without ever having opened a Savings account. I’ve tried tweeting their support team (I wish they would offer an email address) but haven’t heard back yet.

  2. dubs3011 says:

Anyway to open up both capitalone 360 and this and get both bonuses at same time?

    • Curmudgeon says:

      Per offer link:

This offer cannot be combined with any other Capital One Bank or Capital One 360 new account opening offer, and is strictly non-transferable.

I’m not sure of the restrictions on the Cap One 360 checking bonus, so maybe we can do this offer first, then the checking and get both bonuses.

  3. Dave P says:

Does the deposit have to be all at once, in one transaction, or can it be multiple deposits that add up to at least $10k? I’d have to transfer from two different savings accounts, want to make sure it would work.

  4. Frank says:

Would I be eligible for this offer if I’m a customer with Capital One and not with 360?

  5. Cristi says:

anyone successfully enter the promo code?

    • Tan T says:

I haven’t had any account with CapitalOne so I created an account with Savings. After being approved, at the page for depositing into the Savings account, there is a box to type the Promo Code.

I tried open Savings with my wife’s CapOne 360, but didn’t see where to put the promo code. Anyone with better luck with an existing account?

  6. TJ says:

Appears to be impossible to open if you have a Capital One credit card(s), but not Savings/Checking. Endless loop of “Looks like you already have a login with us” followed by “I want to open a Capital One 360 account”, where the link to open a money market takes you back to the beginning un-logged in. Looks like it might be possible open a savings account, that link keeps you logged in, but seems impossible to open money market as your first account.

    • Paul k says:

I have a Capital One credit card and no other accounts. I had absolutely no issue getting the account set up and funded.

When I tried to do online access setup it did inform me to use the one I had set up from my CC account.

      Call them.

  7. SA says:

Can you apply for this account and in future still be able to get 360 checking account bonus?

Question is if i have 360 savings accounts, am i ineligible for checking account promotion?

  8. Latenightchurn says:

Promo code is on the second screen at the very bottom of bank transfer/fund your account options. HOWEVER: I have never had an account with them, except one credit card. They verified my information but then I got the notice that the promo code was invalid because I hadn’t received it by email or mail. I called and they confirmed this is only available for people with targeted offers. She said this wasn’t always the case but it was “with this offer this month.” Beware.

  9. Ryan says:

On par with M&T bank on bonus posting.

My $10k deposit cleared on 12/9, $100 bonus received on 12/13.

  11. jml7 says:

    Data Point:

I got my $100 bonus 2 days ago, 5 days after opening the account. The initial deposit doesn’t even clear for another week. Agreed with the previous datapoint that the bonus posts ridiculously fast.

  12. Research Warrior says:

Just tried to take action using the link, but it’s already showing error message with a different APY. Still the 15th here in PST, so pretty disappointing “deadline.”

  13. Joe says:

I opened my account 12/2, $10k deposit cleared on 12/7, but still haven’t received my bonus. Seeing the few data points above where people got their $100 already is making me worried that maybe the promo code wasn’t applied to my account. Anyone else still not get their bonus yet?

  14. Austin says:

Funded on 12/15, bonus posted 12/22. The original deposit isn’t even cleared yet.

  15. Tomtoo says:

If you have a quick way to fund the account, CSR on chat today said you can still open the account up to the 31st and qualify, but it also has to be funded by then. I have a transcript of the chat, but won’t waste space entering here since the 31st is close. Just thought I would let you know.

  16. john555 says:

they froze both of our accounts….likely because we kept the 10k in 2 days a piece. Had to call to unlock them. Still no bonuses……

    • lingua says:

      any update john555?

I deposited my 10k on 12/23, funds still not available, CSR said by 1/10, and since I didn’t use the code at sign up per saved CSR chat at the time I have to call in with the merry100 code for them to do it manually.

  17. Elvis says:

    12/13 account opened
    12/15 10k posted
    12/20 bonus posted

  18. Willy Brandt says:

I already had an ING Direct savings account, so thought I wouldn’t qualify, but opened anyway.

    5 December: Account opened
    6 December: Opening credit posted
12 December: Called to inquire if I met the requirements, CSR said she would research and call back.
13 December: CSR called back (wow!) and said yes, should post in 6-8 weeks
10 Feb: Nothing posted, I called back to . New CSR looked at the account notes and manually posted two $50 credits.

Overall, great no nonsense bank. If I wasn’t churning, I would probably use them more 🙁

  19. Dan Behar says:

hey huys check this out capital one money market giving 200 bonus on 10k deposits with code STRONG200
    https://capitalone.com/bank/strong200/?external_id=360b_MM_DM_Strong200

    • Chuck says:

      Nice offer, but targeted apparently.

    • Gadget says:

This promo was a sidebar ad in my Yahoo account this A.M. (https://capitalone.com/bank/strong200)

Says “Use invitation code 200STRONG to open your 360 Money Market and
earn your $200 bonus.” NOTE – Not STRONG200 like Dan said!

My situation: I am a current Cap One 360 checking customer, but their system auto-closed my savings account about two years ago when I zeroed the savings balance. I am a converted ING Direct customer, and probably got bonuses to open the checking and savings accounts a long time ago, when they used to run Black Friday promos.

This application allowed me to apply the promo code during sign-up, and gave me an account number w/ the top stating “Your 360 Money Market is open and you’ll receive your $200 bonus within 6-8 weeks.”

      YMMV

      • Tomtoo says:

Looks like you might have slipped through the cracks, based on the following language. Tempted to try it myself although I have had a savings product with them also. Please let us know if/when your bonus posts. The very first wording under the “Open Now” link is:

“PLEASE NOTE: You’ll only be eligible for this bonus offer if you received an email or mail invitation directly from Capital One with an invitation code.”

        Further down:

“(If you currently have or have had a Savings product with Capital One Bank, Capital One 360 or ING DIRECT before or are a Capital One Associate, you won’t be eligible for the bonus.)”

      • Interesting, it wasn’t an actual e-mail in your yahoo right?

        • Gadget says:

Correct. It was a side-bar ad on the right side of the screen from within Yahoo mail login. I thought about taking a screenshot at that time, but doubt that would get me anywhere if they decide not to pay the bonus. They would just fall back to the fine-print.

Unfortunately, terms say 6-8 weeks to get the bonus, so unless they extend this offer, my DP will be here well after the offer is gone. Might be an indicator for future promo’s though.

  20. Gadget says:

Update: I never did get the bonus from the 200strong promo code for the MMA. I think it was because at one time in the distant past I had an ING direct savings, that I didn’t close until about two years ago when it got auto-closed for zero balance. The 6-8 week timeframe for bonus payout had past in April. I was reluctant to call to get told I was a moron for not reading/following the terms. I wrote it off in my mind as the bank wins this one.

Decided today to call and see what they say about my “missing” bonus. Obviously, highly YMMV, but the rep I spoke to reviewed my account. She noted that I did follow the terms in regards to deposit amount and met the deadlines. She manually posted the bonus in four $50 increments, to the checking account, not the MMA. Online access shows “$50 – ACCOUNT OPENING BONUS HOLD EXPIRES: 08/10/2017”

I would assume there will not be a clawback, but if something like that happens, I will update.

Just goes to show persistence pays off. It could be luck of the draw on which CSR I got on the phone, but I have seen at least one other datapoint about Cap One no longer enforcing the once per lifetime rule and ING accounts. YMMV – crossed fingers.
