The Fine Print

  • Valid until May 15th, 2015
  • Requirements must be completed within 60 days of account opening
  • Bonus typically paid within 90 days
  • Available to new customers only (never been an owner or signer of a checking or savings account or loan at Orange County’s Credit Union)
  • Account must remain open for 90 days and must stay opted into eStatements, otherwise bonus may be reversed
  • All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them

Avoiding Fees

There is a membership fee of $5 which cannot be avoided. There are two checking accounts which are worth considering for this promotion: free checking (requires a direct deposit to be free) and basic checking which has a $6 monthly fee that is waived if you have an average daily balance of $750 or more.

You also need to keep your account open for a minimum of 90 days to avoid the bonus being taken back.

Our Verdict

This deal actually isn’t too bad because it doesn’t require a direct deposit. My hesitation is that we don’t know whether it’s a hard or soft pull and I don’t live within the service area. If I did live within the service area, I’d try to confirm with a rep if they did or didn’t do a hard pull and then complete the debit card requirements (and go with the basic checking account).

If anybody decides to complete this deal, please share your experiences in the comments. We haven’t listed this in our best bank bonuses, but it has been added to our complete list of new checking promos.

I feel Terrible because, after submitting many lines, about 30 lines, of personal information, even personal information of my “beneficiary” it didn’t go through. That is VERY concerning. Aaargh!

  3. Superman says:

OCCU allows credit card funding. I made initial deposit with credit card for $2,500. No hard pull. Received $100 bonus within 90 days.
